Hello everyone my name is Matthew Khoury, I'm 20 years old and I'm currently a member of the basketball team here at Miami Dade. Before I came to MDC I was working at Chiptole for a year. I did a gap year after highschool but was still looking to pursue basketball. While I was working at Chiptole I was still working on my basketball skills for what every oppurtuntiy might come. My highschool coach let me know about a workout for Miami Dade basketball and I went to it and crushed the tryout. The head coach loved me and eventually offered me a full scholarship here at MDC. Im very blessed and don't take it for granted. Im studying physcial therapy right now and hoping to stay in the sports field. I grew up in Fort Lauderdale and Ive spent the last two years in Miami. Miami is way more fast paced then Fort Lauderdale and I really like it out here.

Before watching is Climate Gentrification Happening In Miami, I didnt realize how real that climate changes really is. I didnt know that some parts in miami are close to being sea level. Becuase there is low elevation the makert for housing in homestead Miami has went down alot and because of that alot of propertys has been crazy low to buy. Its hard to buy property where there are potiential to be in a diaster around you. Flordia has alot of hurricanes and floods which is bad for selling propetrys. To be honest I didnt realize how real climate change is. I didnt really believe in it but after watching this video it opened my eyes and has me more sympathic toward the people that are living in areas. I will now be more aware of how climate change can effect peoples lives and be more aware of what I can do to help.

After watching One of the videos from The Story of Stuff by Annie Leonard, it defenitly educated me on the Plastic Crisis we have in the US. The video I watched was called "Solving Plastic" and it provided alot of information in regards to making oue earth cleaner and that plastic production is hurting our enviroment. Some suggestions the video makes is discouraging companies from making plastic by forcing them to clean up the pollution their products cause. Another solution is to encourage refill systems that enable companies to reuse their packaging. Reducing the production of plastic will help our problem with pollution. The pollution of plastic is affecting our wild life and our human life as well. People who live near polluting petrochemical facilites or people whos livelihood, like fishermen are being destroyed by waste. When looking for a supposed solution we have to ask ourseveles if it gives back to the people. All in all we need to do something about plastic production and have to come up with solution to stop pollution.

I choose zero hunger because I believe that no one should die from hunger for the fact that we Americans throw away food every day that could be given to the poor. The UN reports that 150 million more people are affected by hunger since the start of the global pandemic. That means as many as 828 million people experienced hunger in 2021, more than three times the size of the US population. I find this absurd and I think we need to do something about it.

After watching Green Energy: Which sources are the most sustainable, it was fasnicating to hear a Scientist give the reasons on which sources are the most sustainbale. Finding whats the most sustainbale and practical to accelerate the green transition is important for us to evolve as a better world. The question that was asked was how much energy needs to come from renewable to cut emissions? The more is better the scientist said but we need is zero carbon energy or net green house gas, negative ways of having an energy system. Nuclear engery which is often over looked could also play a huge role and net negative bio enegry thats used properly can lead to better renewables. Heating and air condiontion can become more sustainable. If we have more proper well constructed homes we would actually need less of the heat and air condiontion to begin with. All in all this video help my understanding for which sources are more sustainable.

World Hungry is a huge issue that we tend not to talk about as much as we should. I believe that Humans should not be able to die from lack of food. The amount of food we throw away in the United States alone is completely absurd. A website shows that we throw away around 119 billion pounds of food that is wasted in the United States. That equates to 130 billion meals and more than $408 billion in food thrown away each year. Shockingly, nearly 40% of all food in America is wasted. With this stat around I think you can understand how I feel when I hear that their are people dying because of lack of food. If we can just cut the amount of food that's being thrown away we can save a lot more lives and help change the world for the better.
https://www.feedingamerica.org/our-work/reduce-food-waste#:~:text=How%2520much%2520food%2520waste%2520is,food%2520in%2520America%2520is%2520wasted.
https://www.concernusa.org/story/world-hunger-solutions/

There a lot of Poverty stricken area where the climate affects the way people live and conduct themselves. Whether it comes in the form of unbearable heat waves, harsh winters, or extreme weather events like Hurricanes, climate change hinder developmental gains and leads to shortages in basic needs. Climate change threatens the purity of our air, depletes our water sources and limits food supply. It disrupts livelihoods, forces families from their homes and pushes people into poverty. As global temperatures and sea levels rise people living in poverty are the most severely impacted. Since climate change affects everything from where a person can live to their access to health care, millions of people could be plunged further into poverty as environmental conditions worsen.

I selected this topic because I believe that we waste alot of food and money on pointless things and could be using that money to feed the homeless. It can be impacted by climate change for homeless people who live outside and can effected by the weather such as the rain, hurricans, snow, etc.

This PSC class has really been a joy to be apart of. Usually online classes are broing and easy not to pay attention in but the fact that I was able to stay ingaged really help me enjoy this class. My initial reaction before taking this class was I thought it would be a boring class but I really didnt enjoy science course before this one. This science course really changed my perspective on science courses in general. My experience during this course was a great one. Having a great Profosser explaining everything we did in he's class with great detail and would always re-explain himself when ever someone asked made this class even better. The activites we did were fun and interseting. All the educational videos we watch were also a pleasure to watch and informative. My mindset during the activites were always trying to figure out the answer and understand why the answer is what it is. I really enjoyed completing the assignments we had. My expreince was different from what I expect by the fact that I thought this class was going to be boring and gonna be hard for me to understand the material. It was the complete opposite of what I expected and I really appericate how good our professor was in helping all his students when we needed it. After completing the assigements I had a better prespective on science and realized how Important it is really. I learned that climate change is a real thing and if we dont protect our home which is earth, we can set up a bad future for a planet. This class help change my perspective on how imoportant science is and that we as humans need to do better trying to protect it. All in all I really enjoyed this class and I hope that this class can keep inspiring student to help better the world.
