Nick’s cottage and Gatsby’s mansion represent their places too, Gatsby being the big hotshot that he is and Nick in the limelight of Gatsby.

This shows more into how he only bought the huge mansion in order to impress Daisy. There was also a time where he kept his house all lit up in order to grab her attention from across the bay.
