After initially losing the space race to the Soviets, there were extreme doubts. Additionally, the assassination of J.F.K the Apollo project became a sort of tribute to him. A few months before the deadline the US sent 3 astronauts who planted the US flag and walked around for about 2 hours.</p>]]></description>

This started cooperation between the the US and Israel and was the first time an Arab nation recognized its sovreignty. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Iran hostage crisis began on November 4, 1979, when Iranian students seized the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, holding 52 Americans hostage for 444 days. This was caused by growing resentment toward the U.S. for supporting the Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was overthrown due to his authoritarian rule, suppression of dissent, and close ties to Western powers, especially the U.S. The crisis ended on January 20, 1981, with the hostages' release after diplomatic negotiations and the signing of the Algiers Accords.</p>]]></description>

The invasion was incredibly costly for the USSR both economically and in lives. The Red Army was not suited to the unconventional tactics of local militias, and the support for the rebels was often underestimated. The occupation was ended by order of Premier Gorbachev in order to ease financial struggles.    </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The CIA orchestrated coups in Iran (1953) and Guatemala (1954) to counter perceived communist influence and protect U.S. interests. In Iran, Mohammad Mossadegh was overthrown after he nationalized British-owned oil. In Guatemala, Jacobo Árbenz was removed due to land reforms that threatened the United Fruit Company, with Carlos Castillo Armas installed as leader. Both coups resulted in long-term political instability and anti-U.S. sentiment in those regions.</p>]]></description>
