I think these steps are necessary in order to see if your plan is effective, doing what it is supposed to do, that the communication is actually reaching the intended audience, and is it cost efficient (are we putting more time and effort into these newsletters and no one is reading them?) This to me is just like assessing students in your classroom- you are not just going to teach and teach and not give some type of formative assessment to check on their learning and then make changes from that assessment. In order to see if my schools SCRP is working our school puts out questionnaires, these questionnaires include Lickert rating scales. I know my school analyzes this data but I am not sure what they do with it after analyzing it.

These steps are necessary to a school so that you can gauge the effectiveness of the plan. Examining is something that we do all the time so that improvements can be made. When you put effort into something you want a desired result so having something in place to make sure you get that result is important. My school uses school surveys and questionnaires to get feedback. There is a team to analyze the data.
Becky

I believe the steps outlined by Fiore are necessary. In schools, we are constantly cycling through the process of improvement. We need to know what we're doing and what the results are in order to make sure we are doing what is best for kids! Especially with something as important as community relations, we want to make sure we are building strong cmmunication and relationships. Reflection is an essential part of improving practice!

Our school also uses surveys to get feedback and we often evaluate this data in our Monday Team Data Meetings (however, seeing a response to this evaluation is rare at the teacher level. I know this analysis is often broken down further in SIP and admin meetings.)
t
r y

The steps for verifying the results or effectiveness of a SCRP are necessary for many reasons. As a classroom teacher you want to make sure that your lesson is effective, or as a dean one of your jobs is to ensure that the teachers are effectively instructing, so it would make sense to ensure that the parts of a SCRP are effective and getting the results they are supposed to get. At the same time, verifying whether parts of a plan are effective leads to next steps if one is not getting the desired results. You would need to be able to determine what to change in order to get the desired results. At my school there is a School Improvement Plan Committee that used to be specific teachers but recently has been opened up to any staff members that would like to participate. My school has communications that go out to families, the service center for larger media-type communications, coffee with the principal, and other meetings when necessary.

The 3 steps Fiore describes to evaluate school community relations efforts are necessary for verifying the results in a SCRP. The overall success of schools and the students that they serve depend on effective communication by everyone involved (Fiore, 2016). Simply put, students do better when parents and the community are involved with their school. We can’t assume two-way communication is effective unless we can back it with data. Assessing how we are doing can not only give us a snapshot of where we currently are, but it also allows us to see what changes we need to make in order to get to our goal. Fiore’s steps are essentially an accountability framework for assessing, monitoring and planning for effective communication and their connection to the schools success.

Our school uses a multi-tiered approach to examining the effectiveness of the strategies we have put in place. There are surveys that go out to teachers, students and families to determine current results. The School Improvement Team, which is comprised of teachers, parents and community members, looks at the data and spends time analyzing the results from the surveys. They then make appropriate plans to make changes as needed. The results are then communicated with the rest of the staff during our meetings and teachers are encouraged to come up with ideas to improve the plan.

I definitely agree that these 3 steps are necessary to evaluate effectiveness of any type of plan. For instance, my lesson plans. If i do not go through an evaluation of the efforts and outcomes of my lesson plans, how will I ever know if my lessons are truly effective. I believe that these 3 steps are an effective way in itself to achieve better outcomes. Especially step number 2, examining the extent to which the efforts are producing the desired results. This particular step allows for adjustments to be made that need improvement or are not working completely.
The school in which I teach at has a team of staff members that meets every few months (probably should meet more often to asses the effectiveness, in my opinion) to discuss our actions being carried out and if our goals are being met. What I find to be frustrating, is that I was unaware of how this was done and had to go find the information. i feel as part of the school community, it should be internal "public" knowledge. All of the staff should know what efforts are being made and what effectiveness is happening from these actions.

If i do not go through an evaluation of the efforts and outcomes of my lesson plans, how will I ever know if my lessons are truly effective. I believe that these 3 steps are an effective way in itself to achieve stronger outcomes. Especially step number 2, examining the extent to which the efforts are producing results, is important because if your not achieving the results you want, then the action plan needs to be adjusted among the efforts that are being made. The school in which I teach at has a group of staff members meet every few months (should be more often, in my opinion) to evaluate the action steps and to see if we are meeting our goals. What I find frustrating is that I was completely unaware that these meetings occur. I had to go find this information out. I feel as though being a part of the school community, these meetings should be internally open knowledge because we are all apart of the community and help build a stronger one together. I asked why it wasn't "public" knowledge and the response I was given was that they felt as though we put in enough efforts that it isn't our responsibility to evaluate the efforts. If actions need to be changed, then we will learn about the changes through a staff meeting.
