In medieval times, women weren’t the educated ones, children and women were the ones that cleaned the house and never really had to do anything. Men were seen as the rulers, the fighters, and women had to work by selling bread or goods. By now Cronon thinks that by being liberated by education we will be free from the imprisonment of the isolated world. The people with the money were called socs and they had the best education and the best cars, they ALWAYS had money they didn’t have to learn how to fend for themselves and the greasers were the ones who had to fight for everything they have. They don’t have the best education. The author Cronon is saying that even though people came from different sides of the tracks we all need to learn to adapt to the new ways schools teach. Everyone has a choice and an opportunity whether it be with FAFSA, or working more than 1 job. We all can do it. Even in highschool education is changing. We can’t be like the socs and the greasers. The book Outsiders was from 1967.
Even better yet? The book To Kill a Mockingbird Atticus had this idea in his head that women can not be educated, women must stay in the kitchen and away from school even though he was a profoundly great lawyer. He wouldn’t let his daughter learn that much as he probably should have. He and everyone else in the book of course, this book was written 1960 but set in the 1930s. We have still come a long way from that too. And cronon has acknowledged that and he proved that education is for everyone. Even if it is just simply staring out and taking in the fields that farmers built, craftsmanship in the way things are built.
