Close-ups and mid-shots are the most commonly used camera angles in music videos. This is because it emphasises the significance of the artists and the characters. These artists/characters are usually lip-syncing to the song in the video, therefore by using close-ups and mid-shots, the lyrics' significance is highlighted.

Tracking and pans are consistently used in music videos, particularly in performance ones. This is because it creates a sense of setting and pace. They are commonly used in music videos to accompany the movement (dance routines, for example) that takes place in music videos.

Finally, another camera angle that is regularly denoted in music videos is a low-angle shot, especially if a performance is taking place. This connotes the artist’s star-power and authority. It could be argued that it makes the audience believe that they're there watching them in concert, looking up at them on stage.

When it comes to the editing of music videos, the pace is a significant aspect. This is because it is dictated by the pace of the song, otherwise the video would appear ineffective. The pace varies depending on the genre. For example, an audience would expect to see a fast pace in a video including house music, and a slow pace for more indie bands.

Cross-cutting is frequently used in music videos, specifically in narrative and performance music videos because it switches back and forth between the performance and the narrative. This emphasises the importance of the artists while reflecting the lyrics at the same time.

Filters are another editing technique that are conventional in music videos. These reflect the mood and genre of the song. For example, a black and white filter stereotypically accompanies a song that creates a sombre atmosphere. Vibrant filters regularly accompany pop music.

Animation is common in music videos because it makes the video stand out against other videos for being unique. It makes the video more memorable and recognisable to the audience.

Flashbacks are regularly denoted in music videos to emphasise the narrative interpreted from the lyrics. They are usually used in amplification music video, intensifying the narrative present.

Finally, straight cuts are one of the most common conventions of music videos because it maintains a sense of pace. Cutting to the beat is conventional of a music video, adhering to Andrew Goodwin’s theory.

The type of costume that that artists/characters wear in music videos differ depending on the genre of the music video. For example, in a music video including a female artist or character, they may be wearing low-cut, revealing clothing. This adheres to Laura Mulvey’s Male Gaze, and Andrew Goodwin’s emphasis on ‘looking’. This is also denoted when it comes to the make-up of the artist. Female characters may be wearing over-the-top make-up to appeal to the male audience. However, excessive make-up, often black and white face paint is commonly used by heavy-metal, screamo bands.

Similarly, the mood and the atmosphere created as a result of the song is reflected in the lighting. For example, low-key lighting may accompany a solemn song, while high key lighting may accompany a pop song. This mirrors the tone created as a result of the lyrics.

Finally, the props used in the music promo correspond with the narrative of the song. This accentuates the significance of the narrative. The most common prop denoted in music promos is the instruments in which the musicians are playing, particularly in those of the rock genre.
