I think that's really unfair to her.
"If she doesn't have a dad, then does her mom work?" Many of you may be asking. The answer is, no. Turns out, her mom can only can pull together 23 words. How would she work like that? Luckily, they do have one neighbour that keeps them company. How do they get money then? You will have to read the book to find out! There is one word that her mom always mentions that has always confused every reader of this book. "soof" "what does that mean?" Heidi keeps asking. She wonders if it is a memory that she's trying to keep. She tries her best to find as much as she can by searching her apartment for clues, but she soon will realize that her story stretches far beyond her apartment.
She departs for an exciting journey to discover her past as she encounters many different people as she starts to build her history once again.

Rui Yi’s Book Talk: When Friendship Followed Me Home, Paul Griffin

When Friendship Followed Me Home is a realistic fiction piece told through first person by the main character, Ben Coffin.

When Friendship Followed Me Home has it all: a rainbow girl, a dog called Flip, a magician and a librarian!

This book starts in school, where Ben Coffin is getting bullied and is too unsure and shy to stick up for himself. Immediately, Kevin is a character that can be described as unsure and unconfident because he gives up his lunch money to a bully instead of standing up to him. Kevin’s mom refers to him as “Traveller” and Ben believes that- because he has already gone through a rough road. But readers will be able to realise that after he meets Rainbow Girl, there is a secret he wants to keep a unknown. There are definitely different sides to this character. What type of scaredy-cat stands up to fight for other people? And especially a guy who dares to hold hands with a girl who is just breathtaking.

Secondly, readers get to experience the conflicts and difficulties of Kevin’s past, and the future that awaits him. The readers also discover that his aunt and uncle give him a less than satisfactory time at home and his schoolmates give him unpleasant experiences at school.

Finally, readers uncover that Ben ,for various reasons, just wanted a place that he could belong to and somewhere to call home. Luckily, Ben finds a home and a loving caretaker that sees him for who he is, bringing out that creativity and friendship that he has to offer.

I believe that When Friendship Followed Me Home is like a combination of Lassie and the Honest truth because it is about the true meaning of friendship, dogs that would follow you to the ends of the Earth and back and sadness.

An important lesson I learned in this book is to appreciate everything or everyone you have around you before they go.

But remember, keep your eyes open for all the amazing symbolism and craft moves in the book!

Rating: 5/5*

Emma's Fever 1793 By LAURIE HALSE ANDERSON Book Write

Two words changed her life. Two words that turned her world upside down. Two words that changed her life from a lazy worker in a coffee shop to someone who defends the innocent. Those two words were the reason for thousands dead.

  Yellow Fever

Fever 1793 is a book by Laurie Halse Anderson. It is a historical fiction book based on the epidemic that happened in 1793, that killed five thousand people in three months. In the book, Mattie, a girl who works at a coffee shop in Philadelphia, wanted to be free of her chores and be able to escape her mother’s bickering. But instead, she gets a town full of yellow fever, people dying everyday, a loss of one of her loved one, and one family member terribly sick far away. So Mattie sets out to help the people with yellow fever and tries to find her family, or what was left of them. On the way, she picks up a new one, one that too had lost her family. Together, they seek for protection and a home, but also love, family, and hope. They learn the importance of never giving up the hope, the little daisy, that would give them back their lives. Traits fly out as Mattie travels through the book, kind, caring, revengeful, crazy, selfish, and a whole lot more. Mattie becomes a “Captain” who will fight for herself.

You would Love this book if you liked “The Boy Who Dared”. Both had love, friendship, and danger spreading through the main character’s lives. The people in their lives were sick, whether it was metaphorically or physically. I give this book 4.5 stars. If you liked the book, you should read “Mockingjay”, both include sisterly love and the meaning of hope.

A lone boy, stranded, hungry, dying. Has to survive on a stranded area. All he wanted is to have a happy life but, there is a problem, divorce, so now he has to fly back and forth with his mother and father his mother during school, with his dad during summer. Then the unexpected happens while he was flying to his dad the pilot gets a heart attack. As he gets sent flying away to his doom he tries to fly the plane screaming at the radio for guidance. But no. Even with help from the people the plane goes down. The rescue team does not find him. And all he has now is the plane, himself, and nature.

You would love this book if you like books about survival and adventure because this book is about surviving in the wilderness there is also many unexpected happenings that completely change the plot and the story like new discoveries. This makes the book similar to a tornado because problems that he has to overcome get thrown at him and the whole entire story changes. In this book you will notice the changes of his thoughts, actions, his thoughts and how he used to feel about himself. This is a great book for people who love to read stories into the night and a great book for people who love books with multiple problems. This book also has one major symbol that goes throughout the whole book and is very important to his change.

I feel like this book deserves a 4.5/5 because this book is a bit repetitive which makes this book 4.5/5 instead of 5/5 but otherwise this book is a very interesting story that you can't let down!

Maniac wanted to be normal, but it seemed impossible for him. So he ran away.

Firstly, you would like this book if you like books with mystery, suspense, and a sprinkle of crazy. Readers first might think that Maniac is a legend without any troubles, but they soon discover that Maniac had a lot of complications in his life. This book has a balance of heartbreaking losses and impossible tasks done by Maniac Magee.

Secondly, readers get a glimpse at Maniacs internal pressures along with his external pressures, which makes them take a step backwards and reread his past troubles.

Lastly, readers discover that in the story, there is a hidden conflict about race which affects Maniac

I believe that Maniac Magee belongs with any book that has a person that sticks out. It makes you want to know what will happen to them, so bad that you have to finish it right then. Read this 5 star book to find out what happens.

From money problems to imaginary friends to scientific facts, Crenshaw has it ALL! It is by Katherine Applegate and it is one of the best realistic fiction books that I have ever read.

Crenshaw is about a kid called Jackson who wanted to have a normal life and live in his house forever. However, his family had money struggles which forced them to move out of their house and live in a mini-van. Jackson has an imaginary friend called Crenshaw that he wanted to forget about, but what he didn’t know is that Crenshaw was trying to help him overcome his challenges which is that his family doesn’t have enough money. Jackson becomes insecure about telling his friends about his struggles, he is even insecure to tell Crenshaw, who is imaginary! A theme in this book is adjusting to change, because Jackson’s family loses their house and Jackson’s family has to live with that.

An important life lesson that I learned was that even though you might feel bad at times, you always have to stay positive. You would like this book if you are a person who likes deep realistic-fiction stories and very complex characters. The author uses a lot of craft moves such as symbolism and foreshadowing. This book has affected me because now I think differently about things that are important to me.

I believe this book is related to Wonder. They are both about insecure characters trying to hide parts of their lives from others.

I rate this book a 5/5, PLEASE READ!

In fact, she isn’t a girl at all! At least, not anymore. When a terrible accident crushes her body and sets her into an irreversible coma, there is only one option for her scientist father to take in order to save Eva’s life.

Eva has grown up with chimps, loved chimps, and even gone on picnics with chimps. Her father is a chimp researcher and has saved a group of chimps in the Chimp Pool. Without him, chimps would be extinct.

Little does Eva know, but soon she will be closer to chimps than ever...

“She felt a sudden surge of happiness, of contentment to have awakened on such a perfect morning. It was like being born again. A morning like the first morning of the world.” -Eva. I like this quote because it ties into Eva’s daily life but also has a deeper meaning.

This book is different than any I’ve ever read before. This book is a truly amazing tale of bonding, acceptance, and who people are on the inside. Eva is an inspiring novel with an alarming twist at the beginning, but I found myself rather attached to this book once I got the feel of the story!

If you liked the Animorph series, this might be the right book for you! It has the same witty charm and Eva shares some of the same story elements as Animorphs, and it is just as good.

Jeff Kinney

A book about a wimp on his summer vacation, but for him vacation means getting into a whole lot of trouble, Greg Heffley is a middle schooler who is good at getting into trouble, but bad at getting out. His vacation all started when his mom told him that they didn’t have enough money to go to the beach and that's when trouble floods in. His first trouble was occurred when he went to spend time outside which was what his mom told him to do but really it backfired. The realistic fiction book Diary of a Wimpy Kid DOG DAYS is written by Jeff Kinney.

If you like Rhyme Schemer then I strongly recommend this book for you because the main character is telling the story like what Kevin did in Rhyme Schemer and as the title says Greg tells the story through his diary like what Kevin does with his notebook.

You would like this book if you are someone who likes to read realistic fiction books or enjoys reading about a life of a kid who often gets into trouble. This book is filled with adventure, funny events, friendship, and a whole lot of trouble.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid DOG DAYS is a book that makes you feel like you are really reading a diary because the author gives a lot of details about Greg and also even includes Greg’s secrets. The book even has stickman sketches and a handwriting that look’s like a kid’s. I would rate this book a 5/5 because of how well the author make you feel like you are reading Greg’s diary.

A dog, a story, and Rainbow Girl.

When Friendship Followed Me Home by Paul Griffin follows the main character, Ben, a former foster kid as finds friendship that has been hiding right in front of his face. In the form of the sweet and caring librarian’s daughter, and a scruffy stray dog with a great talent for helping people, Ben embarks on a journey to tell a story, and find friends. This isn’t just a realistic fiction novel, it’s a story of the loss of loved ones, friendships that change lives, and finding a home where you truly belong.

When Friendship Followed Me Home has the themes and symbolism shown in Rhyme Schemer, the new relationships of Because of Winn-Dixie, and the deep meaning and struggle like in Out of My Mind. If you are a reader who likes to dive into the many layers of a deep and meaningful book, you would love this one, but be ready to get very emotional.

Each part brings new, important, meaning to the story. It has a good balance of joy, sorrow, and every emotion in between. Each chapter brings new feelings.

     Perfect.

I would for sure rate this story 6 out of 5 stars because of the amazing craft moves, themes, and exciting events that fill the pages.

You should really consider reading When Friendship Followed Me Home. It is everything a good story needs to be, and much, much more.

-Nicole

When Friendship Followed Me Home by Paul Griffin is an incredible realistic book about friendship, cancer, and therapy dogs. Ben Coffin is a boy who got adopted at age ten and barely has any friends. In the book, he quickly meets a tiny dog named Flip and Halley, AKA Rainbow Girl. Ben and Halley work together on writing a “novella” called The Magic Box and get Flip certified as a therapy dog for the program Read to Rufus. Eventually, as the story goes on, despite all of the ups and downs, Ben starts to consider Rainbow Girl as his guardian angel and Ben learns the importance of friendship.

You will like this book if you are the kind of reader who really enjoys reading realistic fiction about kids who are different. If you liked the book Out of my Mind, you will love this book. I rate this book ★★★★★ out of 5 stars because it is just so descriptive and so good. It is one of the books that once you start reading it, you can’t put it down and you just want tho keep your nose in it until it is over. This is probably one of the best books I have ever read and the type of book that makes people who don’t read want to read more. In other words, READ THIS BOOK!

The Keeper Of The Lost Cities

Sophie is a 12 year-old girl who skipped grades, doesn't feel comfortable with her family and doesn't really like socialising with people. The reason for this? Well, she's a telepath. Someone who can read people's minds. She even thinks that she's not a human! That’s crazy right? Sophie also thinks that no one knows her secret and that no one will ever know her secret. But is she right?

One day, she meets a mysterious boy named Fitz, who is also a telepath and learns the shocking truth about herself. She’s an elf! Everything in her life is starting to change which includes Sophie to leave her human family and go “home”. But not everyone is thrilled that she’s back home. Sophie struggles at her new “home”. How will Sophie overcome this pressure?

But Sophie still has secrets, that she doesn't even know about.

Why are they kept hidden? What are those secrets? Why does she have so many secrets? Will these secrets change her life forever? All will be revealed in the series: The Keeper Of The Lost Cities

I rate this book 5/5 stars because it was the most amazing book I have ever read. This book is science-fiction, fantasy and, mystery, so if you like these genres, you will definitely like this book. This book also talks about how important friendship and family is. If you read this book and like it, you should read the rest of the series: Book 2: Exile, Book 3: Everblaze, Book 4: Neverseen and Book 5: Lodestar. This series is still ongoing so, even I don't even know what's going to happen! You will like this book if you are the kind of reader who likes/loves books that have one plot to start with but that plot leads to a bigger plot.

Read this book to find out what happens to Sophie at her new “home” and how she overcomes the pressure of living in a new environment!

Keeper Of The Lost Cities Book 1:

Through his adventures, he discovers the true meaning of hard work and companionship.

Will’s problems start on the choosing day, a day where the path of their lives is determined. Will is seen as a wimp to both the reader and the knight that Will wants to be apprenticed to, but later in the book, Will scales the king’s castle to ask him to admit him to Battleschool. But the king is not alone. A ranger, one of the most mysterious people in the land is standing there, awaiting Will’s arrival. And what’s more, he knows who Will is.

Will accepts Halt’s, the ranger, offer to be his apprentice. Will is a very timid character at first, but with Halt’s mentorship and the friendship of his other orphan friends, Will adopts a unique personality and a stunning set of new skills.

Finally becomes strong enough to face a Wargal, one of the scariest creatures in the land. With the help of his mentor and friends, and with the knowledge that he isn’t alone, Will grows into a complex, independent character.

I believe that The Ruins of Gorlan belongs alongside Eragon by Christopher Paolini. Both books are fantasy, with companionship and friendship that will keep you on the edge of your chair until the end.

Read this 5-star book!

Link to Book Talk (Acting): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6N3n3o0NAO4

RHYME SCHEMER is <del>a</del> novel in verse (poetry form) told through a collection of poems by Kevin, the main character.

Kevin’s poems start on the first day of seventh grade. Immediately, Kevin is a character who is easy to dislike because he is a bully. On page two, he refers to himself as “King of the seventh grade” and he certainly sees himself as such --- he expects those around him to do everything he orders! But readers quickly realize that there are other sides to Kevin beyond being a bully. First of all, he likes to write poetry. Who has ever heard of a bully who likes to write poetry?! Especially poetry about freckle-faced, young ladies who take our speech away!

Second, readers get a peek at Kevin’s home life and soon realize that the bully at school is bullied at home by his older brothers and in many ways ignored by his busy parents.

Finally, readers discover that, in many ways, Kevin was waiting for someone to pay attention to him. Thankfully, Kevin receives attention from a kind-hearted character who <del>sees</del>Kevin for who he really is including his skills in poetry and helps him to share his talents.

I believe that RHYME SCHEMER belongs alongside Crossover by Kwame Alexander. Both books are written in cool poetry forms that make you want to keep reading.... at a pace similar to rapid fire on a page.

Read this 5-star book to understand that reference, and ENJOY

Katherine's The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell By: Chris Colfer

The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell is a fast paced, incredible book., especially if you like to read fantasy-adventure books. The book is about about two twins, Alex and Conner, who find their way into a magical, fairytale world, transported by a book. The twins have very different personalities, but as a team, they are one. Alex is a responsible, obedient girl, who always follows the handbook. I know this because even before Alex and Conner found the magic book, Alex was the class pet, who always got the best scores in the class. Conner, however, is a risk taking, humerus, creative character. I know this because before they found the book, Conner always fell asleep during class, he never got the greater grades, but he had the best pieces of fictional writing in the class. This shows that he had great imagination, and was incredibly smart, but he only used his skill for his passions. When Alex and Conner find a magical book (Maybe their blue dress, wand waving, fairy winged, grandmother had to do with this), they get teleported to a world they didn’t know existed, The Fairytale World. When this happens, Alex and Conner are speechless. ‘The trees were tall and dark with bright green moss covering their trunks. The sun’s rays shined through a light mist.’ is how Chris Colfer described, upon Alex’s entry to the Fairytale world.

The main problem in this book is that since the book is still in the Other World, they cannot use the book to go back. So, they have no way to exit the Fairytale World, and they need to go back. Alex and Conner go looking for the ingredients for The Wishing Spell, which can teleport them back home, wiTh just a simple wish. However, an evil figure is also trying to find all the ingredients, for evil purposes. If she succeeds, the Fairytale World is in danger.

I rate this book ⅘ stars, the book is really intriguing, and I could not put this story down! However, I feel like there needed to be more detail in the problem, resolution, and the climax. If you enjoyed the series Fablehaven by Brandon Mull, the characters are very similar, and the story is just as intriguing. Overall, this was a really great fantasy read, and I recommend the book to all of you!

Nathan Barki’s The Boy Who Dared, Susan Campbell BartolettiThe Boy Who Dared is a book about a boy called Helmuth and his journey in Nazi ruled Germany. Helmuth hates the Nazi’s. He thinks that the Nazi’s haven’t told the whole truth to the people of Germany. In this story there is so much fear and joy. What I love about this story is that their are so many different kinds of emotion the author has shown. Helmuth is on a quest to expose the Nazi’s and tell the people of Germany the truth. But along the way he meets people who want to join him in his quest. Then when you least expect it a huge twist happens and betrayal is everywhere. Next, the best aspect of the story and what I admire about the author is that how he uses bold craft moves at the right time. For example, he uses lots of flashbacks, similes, and also he uses different text sizes and different fonts. Finally he uses so much detail in his story. You can really imagine the story in your head happening and you can almost feel that you’re him and that you are living that exact moment. This is why I recommend The Boy Who Dared by Susan Campbell Bartoletti. I give this book a 5/5 rating.

I rate this book a 4 ½ out of 5 because I really enjoyed the suspense in the book and how your mind keeps changing its ideas because of all the different clues and hints it’s giving. However, you also play a role in the book as Miranda sometimes refers to you and says things like how she thinks about the letter you asked her to write, as if referring to you as the note writer. It’s a cool way of writing a book, but it was kind of confusing at the beginning on who Miranda was speaking to.

The Boy Who Dared Susan Campbell Bartoletti The Boy Who Dared is an amazing true story with a complicated plot line. It’s complicated format makes the book stand out from all others. This life-changing story will teach you many important life lessons, as well as keeping you reading for hours on end. You find out he is in jail during world war 2, but you don’t why. The whole story is flashbacks leading up to how he got in jail. This heartracing story will make you feel as Helmuth is about to accomplish something big, but then his plans go wrong and he fails. I definitely rate this book 5 stars because of it’s unique format and the amount of intense things Helmuth goes through.

Do you want to read a book that you can recall a memory of something you had left that was just not right and you need to get that very piece of special back? Do you want to read a book that makes your feel determined just like this character? Then this book is just for you, Pax!

Pax is a wonderful caring fox that it is time to let go to the wild forest because of an upcoming war. Pax’s carer, Peter and his dad never wanted to let Pax go alone, worried how he could survive in the wild all alone. But war is coming and Peter’s dad has to start preparing for the dreading moment and eventually made Pax go. When Peter is staying with his grandfather about to start a new school year, he realizes that he made a terrible mistake of leaving Pax far away from his true home, here with Peter. But Peter can’t get him back, can he? Or can he? Peter packs a survival pack and map in hand. This map tells him he needs to travel 300 miles to reach his destination of where he left Pax. Peter feels confident, scared, terrified about everything but he’s determined to make sure he stays on his mission and find his Pax.

I rate this book 5 stars because it’s very emotional and all the characters in the book are special to the book in its own way. I also loved the lesson in this book.
