Your child/children will be coming home with a reading book today. The book band is based around their end of Year 2 reading level.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be assessing the children using our Fluency in Reading Assessment Tool to determine their appropriate Year 3 book band.

Please see this book today as something to enjoy over the weekend! We hope the children have enjoyed their first few days in Year 3 and look forward to seeing them next week!

We have sent the children home with a Book Bingo sheet that they can complete whilst we are waiting for the Accelerated Reader Tool to go live. This can be done alongside their Reading Book that they bring home. Should the children finish their school reading book, they are to choose a new book from the allocated boxes independently every Wednesday.

If they could inform their class Teaching Assistant or Teacher, we can then tick off when they have read this book from our list.

Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to email your child/children's class teacher.

Please can I have letters back for Parent/Carer Learning Reviews. I seem to be missing quite a few responses and don't want anyone to miss having a slot. You can email with a preferred day if you do not have access to a printer and I will try to accommodate you the best I can.

Do any of our Year 3 families own bubble machines. We are in need of 4-6 if possible along with some bubble solution. Unfortunately our prop department is looking a little scarce of bubble machines! Should you have one you are willing to lend for our Christmas Play, we would be eternally grateful for you to POP them in!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, The Christmas Production Tickets will now be sent home with your child/children tomorrow (Friday). All tickets have been allocated as requested.

With only a week to go until we break up, we have a couple of requests in preparation for the Spring Term. Yes, we are that desperate to come back!

Over the Christmas Holidays, please could you save a piece of cardboard approximately 16cm wide x 23 cm long. Ideally this needs to be heavy duty cardboard from boxes. We are hoping to do some weaving in Art based on our Film Topic La Luna.

Secondly, we will be starting our D.T. topic in the first week back after the holiday. Our topic is Desk Tidies made using Sustainable Materials and Recycled Packaging. We would like the children to bring in small cardboard tubes and boxes, which could be used to make small compartments on a desk tidy. Please do not provide any packaging made from plastic. We will be discussing the suitability of the packaging in relation to storing stationery items.

We hope you have had a well rested Christmas and New Year.

We look forward to welcoming all the children and their families back on Tuesday 6th January (Monday is an Inset Day).

As the weather is turning colder, please can we ask that children have a warm coat, hats, gloves and scarves with name labels in. This time of year, the lost property box does become a mountain of unnamed clothing!

Please can we remind you to send children in with empty cardboard packaging that is suitable for a small desk tidy as soon as possible. We are working on this over the next 3 days. Please see the above photo for recommended ideas/sizes. PLEASE NO LARGE CARDBOARD BOXES/SHOE BOXES as these are too big.

If you are supplying toilet rolls, please microwave them for 20 seconds to eradicate germs.

Over the next week or two, your child will bring home a login card for Accelerated Reader with their username and password on. The website address for Accelerated Reader is also on the card but, to make it easier to access, you can just click the link here to access the website. Welcome

Thank you for your support with our new Accelerated Reader System. As you may have noticed, quite a few books are coming back as not having a quiz attached to them on the system. If your book cannot be found on the system, please do not worry for now as we are in the early stages of this new system, which is proving to have a few teething problems.

Adding these books that are not registered will take time, so please bare with us. We encourage the children to read the book they are given from school (even if not registered) alongside any books they enjoy from home. It might be worth checking to see if your books from home have a quiz attached to them instead, which you can complete!

As per our usual routine, children can bring back their book every Wednesday to exchange.

Things to remember:

Please ensure pencil cases have blue handwriting pens, pencils and additional stationery in them so that the children are ready for every lesson.

Coats for outdoors (we go out in all weathers!)

Swimming Kit for tomorrow and the upcoming swimming lessons.

Reading Folders with Reading Books and Spelling Books should come to school every day.

We can't wait to start this term with lots of exciting work based on The Twits in English alongside our work on The Romans in History.

Please can the children have a go at practising their 4 times tables and division facts over the upcoming weeks as we will recall these facts in the last week of term before Easter.

Times Tables Rockstars and Hit The Button are a great way to consolidate the children's understanding.

If you have an Alexa or Hey Google device, you can get them to say the multiplication facts.

You could even stick post-it notes up around the house to help remember them!

Now that we have entered the Summer term, and the weather is (hopefully) improving, please can you ensure that your child/children has/have a water bottle, a hat (marked with their name) and has sun cream applied before they arrive at school.

Unfortunately, staff are unable to apply sun cream to the children in school.
