How does the speaker's tone change? it goes from happy and proud to scared and cowardly.
What archetype is described in the poem? His famous sword which is a magical item archetype.
what is the poet's overall message about life or human nature?why? You can wear something on the outside but when it goes back to it we are all humans and make mistakes. 
What reoccurring motif leads you to determine the theme? Once upon a time is a reoccurring motif, it represents the man was once happy and confident but now is sad and cowardly.
Two examples of figurative language and explain their deeper meaning. "Talking like a man who knew the world by heart"(Simile) This means the man was once very confident in what he said but now he is unsure and hesitant to say anything.
"with an eye of fire." this is a hyperbole because his the eye isn't really fire but its deeper meaning is really is very "loud" and scary.
