Everything, Everything is mostly set in Maddy's house. Maddy is not aloud to go outside because she has SKID row, a disease that makes a person have issues that make it so they could die if they go outside. Maddy has had this disease since she was very little, so she has only been outside a few times. Maddy's house is air locked and everyone who comes inside has to have an extensive medical history background check to make sure its safe for Maddy. The only people who Maddy regularly sees in person are her mom and her nurse Carla. Maddy takes online classes for school. The only other place Maddy ever goes in the book is Hawaii when she realizes what she is doing is not living. Its just not dying. Everything, Everything is set in current times. I can tell because they have modern technology.

EXPOSITION:
In the beginning of Everything, Everything and scattered throughout the book are little pieces of Maddy's life before the book started. Maddy has lived in the same house for 18 years, and was to young to remember the last time she went outside. Maddy's mom gives her a picture of her and her family on the beach when she was around 1 year old. The picture includes her mom, her dad, and her brother. Maddy's dad and brother died in a car crash when Maddy was very little. Maddy doesn't remember her dad or her brother, but she still misses them.

CONFLICT:
When the new neighbors move in next door, Maddy becomes friends with the boy who is about her age named Olly. Maddy likes Olly and for the first time wants more than the house and more than her books. Maddy wants to go outside more than she ever has before. Maddy and Olly start chatting online, and eventually Maddy convinces nurse Carla to let Olly come over. Maddy and nurse Carla do this without her mom knowing. When Maddy's mom finds out, she fires nurse Carla, and makes it so the time that Maddy is on her devices doesn't overlap with the time Olly is on his.

RISING ACTION:
Maddy and Olly exchange few words because she will message him while he is at school, and when he gets home he will message her and she will see it the next day. After Maddy's mom fires nurse Carla, she hires a new nurse that Maddy calls nurse evil. Nurse evil leaves these annoying notes EVERYWHERE and Maddy hates them. Maddy is upset with her mom for making it so she can't communicate with Olly and for firing Carla so she spends less time with her and isn't as nice to her anymore. Maddy realizes that what she is doing is not living, its just not dying so Maddy and Olly run away for a two day trip to Hawaii and Maddy surprisingly doesn't die. Her mom plans on coming to get her, but she doesn't want to go. Maddy then passes out on the bathroom floor of her hotel.

CLIMAX:
When Maddy is in the hospital, the doctors aren't convinced that she has SKID row. Maddy's mom doesn't let them look into it any further, and takes Maddy home. When they get home, Olly and his family has already moved to NYC. Maddy's mom takes a few weeks off of work to stay with Maddy. Maddy wants to look into what the doctor in Hawaii said about the possibility of her not having SKID row, so she looks through the files her mom keeps on everything. Maddy doesn't find one file about her diagnosis, so she keeps looking and still no file. She knows her mom would have diffidently kept that file, and at that point Maddy's life will never be the same because her mom has been lying to her her whole life. She never had SKID row. She later finds out her mom did it to protect her after her dad and brother died.

FALLING ACTION:
Maddy calls the doctor from Hawaii to find out why she passed out, and finds out it was because she had such a weak immune system because she had never been exposed to anything. Maddy and her new doctor work on building up her immune system and she stays with Carla for a while.

RESOLUTION:
Maddy decides to fly to NYC to talk to Olly. She meets him in a book shop, and stays in NYC with him for a little bit.

I think the theme of Everything, Everything is to not let little things scare you. Maddy basically missed her entire teenage years because her mom was afraid of something happening to Maddy which is understandable, but when the time came, Maddy chose a few days of her dreams over an entire life inside. She also chose to "save" Olly when his dad punched him over staying safe inside. She also decided the life she was living inside and alone was less than what she wanted. She wanted more, and she was willing to risk everything for that.

If I was a book reviewer, I would give Everything, Everything 3.5/5 stars because it was okay, but not the best. It was kind of cheesy, and cliche, but It was an okay book. When they went to Hawaii, Maddy was all like, "WOW! Hawaii is like heaven! WOOOOOO!" when if you actually went to Hawaii on a low budget you would stay in a crappy hotel and there are so many bugs and Maddy would have probably gotten a bug bite or something that could have gotten her sick with her weak immune system. Also, the food would have gotten Maddy sick because its all this local fish and other local foods that could have had stuff in them that wouldn't bother others because they have stronger immune systems. Maddy also has never had most of these foods, so she would probably have a bad reaction to these foods that are new to her.
