I have a trolley of laptops for I.C.T. classes and students stay in their own classrooms. The students mostly learn how to use Word 2007 and a little bit of Powerpoint and Publisher. Hi everyone I am the I.C.T. teacher in a special school. We don't have a lab, we just use a laptop trolley and Wi-fi. Apart from teaching I.C.T. at a basic level I support colleagues with device issues. I don't actually manage the infrastructure as I don't have that kind of background. There are 6 access points in our school for 12 classrooms. Students must hand up their phones at the beginning of the school day.The students can access the Internet on  school devices. 
We use an outside technician to maintain our system. Our WiFi used to be good a few years ago but it is no longer fit for purpose.We hope to have it upgraded soon. The only exception is if they have an app that is particular to their needs. For example if they need Time Out they might be allowed to draw or play a game or use a programme that helps them with writing etc. 
In our school it could be very useful especially for many functional activities such as texting, telling the time, text to speech and vice versa.

this is what I have learned so far:

Students can have accounts to sign into the wi-fi so that they can be monitored and only use 1 device or sign in as 1 person.
 
 BYOD certainly has potential if there is enough security and monitoring. However, it seems very complicated for school staff and doesn't suit our school at the moment.
