the first human settlement in the place we know how harlem was from the Dutch, which he did called New Harlem,in honor of the Dutch city of Harlem.In 1664 ,the British took control of the Dutch colony and baptized the Harlem city. 
in the nineteenth century, Harlem was a city fuul of farms , including the one owned by James Roosvelt , east of 5th Avenue between 110th and 125th Street , which is currently the center of the spanish area of Harlem.
Colour dwellers arrived in Harlmen at the beginning of 20th century and from 1919 they had already quadrupled. The 1920s Harlem was the center of black cultural movement called the Harlem Renaissance, which was a time of artistic productions such as jazz, whose shows were intended only for white peaple. Harlem is also one of the areas whwrw street guys straded dancing at hip hop songs.
Over the years immediately following  the end of second's World War, the neighborhood became the destination of many American-immigrants. In a few years even because of a kind of period of general decline in the area, Harlem became a poor neighborhood with a hight unemplyement rate and crime.
For years know as the most dangerous , malevolent and decadent  neighborhood in the Manhattan, since the mid-nineties of the twentieth century, the neighborhood has begun to change face mainly thanks to the will it's inhabitants who decided to change the better situation.
