i would rely on coercive power. if i use force and threats to get my way and also make poor decisions, it will make the citizens against the current government and despise me as a prime minister. thus, once the prime minister is changed, he will receive a lot more trust, especially if he treats the citizens properly and undos my mistakes. for instance, if you had a relief teacher who was very strict and taught the lesson very half-heartedly and badly, then when your original teacher returns, you will probably feel more grateful to your teacher and more inclined to listen. this way, the citizens will have a deeper trust in the prime minister because most will probably compare what i did to how the current prime minister is. hence, the country will be more united under the lead of the current prime minister

I would rely on coercive power to create long term change. I feel that it would be the most effective form of power because it results in immediate results through instilling fear in people. A real world example of this is the police arresting people and putting them in jail. For example, if a murder is put in jail, there is long term change because there is one fewer murder in the country for however long the murderers' jail time is, and it will likely be long term. Apart from that, many people will not break laws because they are afraid of the penalties, causing long term change as fewer people will break laws and do illegal things in the long term.

i would rely on referent power. influence is more sustainable as it fosters genuine belief and interest instead of just short-term compliance. it inspires intrinsic motivation, hence even when the appointed leader isn't present, their followers continue to maintain new behaviours. plus, it's based on respect and trust rather than relying on external motivators. for example, Martin Luther King Jr. 's power did not come from a formal position but from the respect that people had in him. as he stood for civil rights and led by example, people trusted him. one of his speeches, "I Have a Dream", deeply moved people and allowed him to connect emotionally with them. his influence continued after his death, showing the long influence of referent power.

I would rely on coercive power. Since coercive power involves the use of force, threats or other forms of pressure to achieve compliance, it is the power which results immediate obedience as people will be fearful towards the person who is relying on coercive power. For example, laws. Some people break laws but in order to prevent them from doing so, I can either increase the cost of the fine or put them in jail for a few months. This way, more people will realise the importance of abiding the laws and will cease violating them. A law that many often break is littering. Once people find out about the new change of events, they will stop littering, resulting in the environment to be cleaner and more sustainable.

Referent power. I believe that when I have referent power, being Prime Minister for a day would already spread my reputation. Thus, even after I step down, I would have built a following, where I can form a group and still impose my rules. That way, I can still boost a long-term impact, as I will be remembered and am still actively expanding my rules and beliefs.

A real-world example of this would be Hitler, forming the Nazis through his passionate beliefs coupled with his charisma. Of course, I wouldn't start taking over the world...

<s>（Or will I?)</s>

I would rely on referent power as, if I influence people and make them believe that what I am doing is right, it will be known to the whole world that I am not forcing them to do anything. They are using their own mind and are deciding for themselves that they want to listen and follow me. If the rest of the world also sees that there are a lot of people listening to me, and not because they are forced to, it will inspire more and more people to follow me. One of the many real life examples are Barack Obama. Using referent power, many people believe that his speeches was one of the most important reasons that Barack Obama became the president of the United States. One of the most influential speeches that Obama gave was the one on Healthcare when he was addressing the congress. Hence, I feel, like many people, Barack Obama's influence during his speeches is what caused him to become the first African-American to become one of the world's most influential leaders. Many people still follow Barack Obama's ways till this day. All in all I feel that referent power would be the best power to use.

I would rely on legitimate power as many people support it. Coercive power makes people feel unsafe and insecure and I want citizens to be happy. Reward power won’t work as I also have limited resources and can’t keep giving them away. Expert power is not bad except I’m not an expert in anything that any of the citizens can’t do. Referent power and actually most types of power except legitimate tends to go to your head and then you start using your power for the wrong things. Legitimate power dosen’t allow corruption or bribery and anything unfair or illegal. The law also makes people feel safer and more secure from criminals and will therefore appreciate an honest and uncorrupted prime minister.

I would rely on legitimate power. If I have legitimate power, I can set rules and laws that help improve the citizens lives and address some big problems in the country, like theft or other crimes. These laws will let citizens feel safer as there is less corruption and they will trust me more. These laws will still remain even after I step down, unless the new Prime Minister changes them. These laws will be able to address the issues in the country, and work towards improving the environment in that country. An example of legitimate power is a Principal in a school as he/she will set the rules to ensure that the students have a conducive learning environment and that the pupils are well behaved. I think that legitimate power is the best power to use as it is less corrupt so citizens will trust it more.

I would rely on referent power, because it is the most respectable type of power. People with charisma do not need power, money, or a good education from the start, which makes it so upright because of the equality. Furthermore, you can use referent power to convince anyone. With power like reward or expert, you are unable to exert your will over those with more money or knowledge than you. Now, you might think that referent power only relies on one person, and when that person is no longer around, the influence they held will have no more impact. However, look at some of the most well-known leaders. Jesus H. Christ, for example. His charm and charisma made people believe and follow him, and to this day, a large percentage of the population still does. Because of this, I believe that referent power is the best form of power in this situation, along with others.

- Lee-Anne Tan

I would rely on referent power. If I were the Prime Minister for a day, I would want to create long-term change by having citizens respect me and therefore listening to me, rather than other methods. Personally, the main reason for why I would choose referent power is as it fosters a sense of trust. It would also most likely come across as influence, and I think that people would feel happy to listen because they are influenced, rather than feeling obliged to. For example, social media influencers have referent power. Those who are on social media to entertain have referent power in the way that they convince people to follow them. Those who are supporting a cause or are trying to change a problem in the world have referent power in the way that they explain problems and influence people by building respect and having people feel influenced to support them. Hence, I would choose referent power as I feel it is the most effective.
