Text: a short story by Terry Pratchett, a British author

Why we picked it: The short story is funny and comprehensible for students. It contains pictures, a lot of adventurous vocabulary and a twist-ending, making it especially appealing to younger learners. The description of the “Snorry” and the variety of adjectives used throughout the text can also be helpful when describing people or animals in a more interesting way. Moreover, the text contains numerous irregular and regular verbs, thus, subconsciously helping students get accustomed to the past tense. Lastly, it serves as an excellent example for an adventure story, which the students can use as a model for their own texts if they want to.

Language points:

- description of people/animals

- vocabulary (jobs, adjectives)

- past tense (regular and irregular verbs) and past perfect (had seen, had disappeared, had gotten, had suffered)
