I am Myrfe Janine Sicam. I am a fresh graduate of Multimedia Arts major in Film from CIIT College of Arts and Technology.

I am interested in a career as a video editor in the film and advertising field. In the past four years of my experience, I have been accepting commissions as a video editor and as a graphic designer for foundations and organizations. I am usually asked to edit documentary-type videos wherein I stitch the clips, fix the flow, and add subtitles onto them. For graphic designing, I am usually asked to layout posters and flyers which were used for advertising purposes.

Aside from the experience that I gained from doing commission work, I have been involved in film productions. I have produced films that were outside of my school requirements. One example is our short film entitled "Kalipung-awan" or "Loneliness from an Isolated Place" where I have not only been the video editor, but also the director of photography, storyboard artist, and musical scorer. This short film has been a Vidsee Juree Awards 2020 Finalist. I can say that one of the reasons why it has been picked as a finalist is because of the editing. 

I am confident to say that I am versatile because, in the past film projects that I have worked on, I have not only been the video editor. I play different roles depending on what is needed as long as I am confident that I can do the job efficiently.

After assessing the risks and rewards of the idea, that is when I start to pitch it to the team. For example, in the short film that we made entitled "Kalipung-awan", I was the director of photography. I persuaded the director to agree with the shots that I have proposed to him. Giving him the rationality of my shot decisions and its mise-en-scene. I always back-up my ideas with facts. Like when going for a low-angled shot, it is because the character in the frame is superior or possesses power. And when transitioning from shot to shot, since we only have one actor that plays two roles at the same time, I have to take note of the editing. The actor's blocking and the camera's framing is very crucial in this project so I talked it out with the director that we must take a very keen eye on the staging. Overall, the film project has been a success. And by success, I mean it has been a Vidsee Jury Awards 2020 Finalist.

There is more that lies ahead of me, not just being a finalist. I crave for more and will do what it takes to further improve my craft. I honestly mainly play the role of the leader, which is why I am being chosen to portray heavier roles in a film project as I have the ability to lead and to communicate my ideas efficiently. Sometimes, I end up editing the film too if the video editor cannot fulfill what is needed. In the music video that I directed for the band 5A.M, I added a lot of match cuts and transitions onto its storyboard. Therefore, it requires meticulous editing. When the editor cannot give what I needed even if I have given specific instructions onto him, I asked him if he'd let me help him. I downloaded the files, edited it through Adobe Premiere Pro, determined the flow, its transitions, and polished the music video. As a result, the music video has been one of the chosen videos by 24 Frames, CIIT's Film organization, to be submitted to film festivals. This means that our music video was one of the best works.

The feelings that I had in the entirety of the two interviews were the same emotions that I get when I am performing on stage for a dance competition. In both initial and final mock interviews, I was a little nervous prior to entering the Google Meet link. But as I feel this tension inside me, I try to convince myself that I am prepared for this. Just as when I rehearsed enough to get myself ready for my past dance performances, I have prepared myself through examining my strengths, weaknesses, capabilities, and achievements. As the interview was ongoing, my nerves were slowly calming down. I have realized that you just have to know yourself well in order to slay an interview and to land a job. You should know your strengths and how to market it well to your interviewer. Interviews will not be hard if you will just be transparent and honest about who you are since that is the main purpose of interviews, for the employers or the company to know you better. There is an appropriate job for everybody. This is the same as the principle with actors in film. Not every actor can fill a role. There is a specific role that suits an actor and his/her personality and looks. We should not force a job that is not fit for us. In the initial interview, Ms. Maezl suggested that I should also ask what specific job am I tasked to do if I get to be employed for the position. While in the final interview, Ms. Madz suggested that I should make some adjustments with my Curriculum Vitae. She told me that I should put the skills and awards prior to the list of seminars that I have attended. As I hear these suggestions, I realized that I made certain errors and I need to fix them.
