Stage 2 Research on Life Cycles of Animals by Mrs Sim

Stage 2, do your research first. When you are ready to post, click on the plus symbol. Start by adding your name as the subject. Type in one or two sentences about your life cycle animal. I needs facts, not silly stuff. Then add a picture or a link to a good video. I will be marking each post so post something suitable.

Frogs have multiple stages in there life such as egg, tadpole, tadpole with legs, froglet and a adult frog. By 12 weeks, the tadpole has only a teeny tail stub and looks a miniature version of a adult frog. Soon, it will leave the water, only to return again to lay more eggs and start the process all over again! By between 12-16 weeks, depending on water and the food supply, the frog has completed the frog cycle. The process in witch a tadpole turns into a frog is called a metamorphosis, and it is an amazing transformation.
Good research, Elise! Fantastic answer.

There are four stages in a Butterfly's life cycle. There are The egg, The caterpillar, The pupa and the Butterfly. It starts when a female butterfly lays her eggs on a plant. The eggs can vary in shapes and sizes. The time it takes for the eggs to hatch can also vary. The caterpillars eat there way out of the egg. When they grow they shed their skin four or five times. Once fully grown, they form themselves into pupa. They transform inside and a hardened case forms outside to protect them. This may last a few weeks to several months. When the Butterfly is ready, the case splits open and the Butterfly pumps a liquid called hemolymph into the wings so they are big and strong to fly off.
That's a lot of information. you know a lot about the life cycle of a butterfly Stacey!

egg

After mating, the female platypus will lay between one and three small eggs, similar to those of reptiles. The eggs develop inside of her body for about four weeks, then are laid in a dirt burrow for about 10 days. The incubation has three stages. In the first stage, the embryo relies on the yolk for sustenance. In the second stage, the embryo has fulled absorbed the yolk and begins to develop its limbs and digits. By the third stage, the platypus will begin to develop teeth.

Birth

After hatching, the babies will be blind, deaf and hairless. They survive on their mother's milk, which does not come from teats, but instead is secreted from her pores and collects on grooves in her abdomen, which create pools for them to lap up. They stay in this young suckling stage for about three to four months, after which, the mother stops staying in the burrow with them as often.

Leaving the Burrow

At about four months old, the babies leave the burrow for the first time. While they are born with teeth, these fall out around this time and are replaced by horned plates that are used to grind food. At this stage, they will begin eating adult food, including insect larvae, freshwater shrimp and freshwater crayfish. The platypus only mates between June and October. The animals are not monogamous.

The chicks are born in an egg. Once they are in their egg for about 21 days they start to hatch. They use their beak to break out. When they are out they will feel exhausted because getting out of their egg is hard work. When they are young we call them a chick. Chicks grow bigger and bigger until they are very big. When they are at there adult stage we call them a hen. Then the hen starts to have baby chicks in their eggs. But sadly when the mother is too old she has to move on and pass. And that's when the life cycle begins!

The elegant and graceful creature, the Butterfly has 4 stages of growth, The Egg, The Caterpillar, The Pupa then the the Butterfly. The cycle starts when the Female Butterfly lays her eggs. In the wild it is regular to see a female butterfly lays up to 100 eggs. The eggs can be different in looks, some may be smooth or bumpy. Depending on the species, some butterfly eggs hatch within weeks or when the weather is warm enough. Once they hatch it is time for them to begin the Caterpillar stage. After the caterpillar hatches out of the egg they eat their eggshells until the eggshells have been devoured. The caterpillars have a large appetite after they emerge from their egg. Once the eggshell is gone the caterpillars go off to find some leaf or plant to much on. During this Stage they shed their skin four-five times. Why? well they are growing a new bigger skin underneath there current skin so once its ready to come of they shed there old skin off embracing their new skin. A full grown caterpillar can be a hundred times larger than when it emerged from it egg! Once a caterpillar is fully grown it begins the stage pupa. Like the stage name they form into a pupa (or chrysalis)
which is like a shell to protect them from harsh weathers or predators while forming tissue, limbs and organs of a butterfly. Once the caterpillar emerges from the pupa they are a wonderful winged creature. Now they have entered the last and most beautiful stage, The butterfly. Once the butterfly has emerged from the pupa it is almost ready to take off. The wings at first are soggy, wet and wrinkled. If they took off right there they would go splat. What they do to prevent that is they wait for their wings to dry then pump a special liquid into there wings called Hemolymph into them so they become big and strong so they are fit for flight. Once the butterflies have grown and pumped their wings with the liquid they go off in flight for the search flowers or a butterfly to mate with. The whole butterfly cycle restarts.
Good information. Did you cut and paste it or is it your own words???

A platypus has a body like an otter, a bill and webbed feet like a duck, and a tail like a beaver. After mating the female will lay up to 1-3 eggs in her burrow. It takes a baby platypus for ten days to hatch. The mother produces it's babies by holding then between her body and tail. Baby platypus infants are the size of a lime beans and totally helpless. Females nurse their young for three to four months until the babies can swim on their own. Platypuses hunt underwater, where they swim gracefully by paddling with their front webbed feet and steering with their hind feet and beaver like tail. Folds of skin cover their eyes and ears to prevent water from entering, and the nostrils close with a watertight seal. In this posture, a platypus can remain submerged for a minute or two and employ its sensitive bill to find food.Males are venomous. They have sharp stingers on the heels of their rear feet and can use them to deliver a strong toxic blow to any foe.
Good information Winnie, you don't need to cut and paste just write a few sentences in your own words.

The butterfly develops through a process called metamorphosis. There are four stages in it: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. It all starts when a female butterfly lays her eggs they take a few weeks to hatch or once the weather is warm enough.

Once ready, the caterpillar leaves its home. These little critters have a serious appetite, they actually eat their way out of the egg and immediately start chomping on the leaves of the plant they were born on. During this stage, they shed their skin 4-5 times.

Once fully grown, the caterpillar forms itself into a pupa. Inside, the cocoon, limbs and organs of the caterpillar transform. The result? A wonderful winged butterfly!

Once the butterfly is ready to emerge, the case around the pupa splits open. But it's not time to take off just yet, as the wings are at first wet, soft and wrinkled against its body. The butterfly waits for its wings to dry, and pumps a liquid called hemolymph into them so that they become big and strong. Then finnally they fly off. Hooray!

Fabulous information, Evie! I am so impressed with your work and the diagram

Chickens are born in an egg. After about 21 days the chickens start to hatch out of their egg. It is hard work getting out of an egg so it will take a bit of effort. After the chickens are out they are very tired from all the hard work they did to get out so they are not very active. In fact, some may fall asleep because of all the hard work. When a chick is out of an egg they are not adults yet so we call them a chick. But as the chicks grow to their adult stage they are now called hens or roosters depending what gender they are. A female is called a 'Hen'. A male is called a 'Rooster'. Now, soon enough the hen will have baby's and it will all start over again! This is the life cycle of a chicken!
