Amazon is a technology company focusing on e-commerce, digital streaming, cloud computing, and many more features. It is the world’s largest online retailer and includes various product lines. Alexa is one example of a device Amazon has created. Alexa is a virtual assistant that is voice based and powered by Artificial Intelligence. On the backend a user can create phrases, an example of one that is already implemented is “Hey Alexa”, or wake words, that essentially wake Alexa up and she then hears the phrase the user is communicating to her, deciphers it, and then runs a code in the backend to give the appropriate response or act on the command given to her. It has been said that Alexa is always listening, primarily for the wake word, and this is an aspect of Amazon’s Alexa we have chosen to dig deeper into and understand the threats of Amazon Alexa to an individual or even a company.
