No other hatred is as intense, spreading throughout so many countries, including those where Jews do not live, for so many centuries and with such tenacity. But, because of their contribution to a strong culture, the Jews persevere through all of the difficulties. Jews are the most visible victims of hatred in society, and our survival proves that we are truly the chosen people.

G-d chose us for special responsibilities because we have shown a readiness to that the rest of the world refused. These obligations include higher degree of spiritual and moral standards. The Jews accepted the Torah not just for themselves, but for the entire world. We've never tried to turn over our responsibility to anyone else.
It is clear that Jews have not had a fortunate history. In a sense, being Jewish, means being held to a higher standard while being subjected to our long history of anti-Semitism. It says a lot that Jews have survived despite everything

How can a group of people who've been persecuted throughout history also be the 'chosen people'?

From slavery in Egypt to the Holocaust, to modern-day antisemitism. How are we chosen, and what does it actually mean to be chosen?

What makes an Antisemite different than someone who hates us for simply being different?

The Antisemite hates us for being Jewish, and the other person hates us for bring different.

By this logic, the other person would hate other people with different traits, like skin colour, gender, nationality, and other traits.

The antisemite knows who the Jews are, and knows that challenge after challenge, we persevere. Haman, Amalek and Hitler were all familiar with our history and hated us because we were chosen. They all persued 'final solutions' and they all failed.

Sages say that our biggest problems are from these Galus (or exile) civilizations. When we don't keep the Torah, we give them energy, and they become stronger and want to hurt us. When we keep the Torah and our Mitzvot, we use up that energy and that civilization fails.

- Jonah & Justin
