         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario is a registered charity that works towards offering resources, services, information, venues and products to help people with learning disabilities and ADHD.  They work towards helping the individual as well as families, teachers, and other professions.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>They assist by providing up to date information, prompting more research in the field, and generating legislative initiatives.</p><p><br/></p><p>They help those with learning disabilities achieve proper education, medical opportunities, employment opportunities and so on.</p><p><br/></p><p>The are here to help promote public awareness and to help advocate for those with learning disabilities and ADHD.</p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>You can become a member of the LDAO through contacting your local chapter.</p><p><br/></p><p>Local chapters are in charge of providing programming for their clients.</p><p><br/></p><p>They provide a variety of program publications including:</p><ul><li><p>Communique (twice yearly magazine) </p></li><li><p>Job Fit - workbook series to help with finding employment</p></li><li><p>LD@School - web resources for Ontario Educators.  This is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Education.  Included tip sheets for student success and other helpful resources to help teachers reach their students.</p></li><li><p>Some Assembly Required - workbooks for students in grade 6-8 to explore learning disabilities and the transition to high school</p></li><li><p>Snapshot Series- snapshot pages that address a variety of topics related to LDs</p></li><li><p>This is the Face of LD - a series of posters that tell stories of 6 different individuals with LDs</p></li></ul><p><br/></p><p>They also provide information on services such as:</p><ul><li><p>summer camps</p></li><li><p>university accessibility services</p></li><li><p>transition programs</p></li><li><p>and so much more.</p></li></ul><p><br/></p><p>It is important to note that they do not endorse a particular strategy, program or treatment.  They only provide information on what is offered throughout Ontario that could be of use to the LD community.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The LDAO provides many workshops to help grow understanding of LDs and how we can support ourselves if we have one or those around us.  Workshops are on topics like IEPs, Parent workshops (setting your child up for success), learning styles and self advocacy and effective parent advocacy. </p><p><br/></p><p>The LDAO also has scholarships and bursaries to help support students and their transition to post secondary.</p><p><br/></p><p>The LDAO also has many materials, videos and even DVDs you can get through their website to help further your knowledge.</p><p><br/></p><p>When you first enter the LDAO website you can direct yourself to 4 different options:</p><ul><li><p>the LDAO main site (has the basic overall information about the organisation) Many of the workshops are also found here.</p></li><li><p>LD @ School - provides resources and learning modules to help teachers as many of our students have LDs</p></li><li><p>LD @ Home - provides parents with supports to help give the best to their children </p></li><li><p>LD French language resources.</p></li></ul>]]></description>

         <title>School Board/Community Connections</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>There are many local chapters throughout Ontario.  Courtney chose to focus on the Winsdor Essex Chapter as that is where she is located.  Please note that each chapter has the ability to design their own programing services to meet the needs of their clients.</p><p><br/></p><p>the LDA Windsor-Essex County Chapter does exist. </p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>website: <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="http://www.ldawe.ca">www.ldawe.ca</a></p><p><br/></p><p>The LDA Windsor Essex provides programs and services for children, youth and adults.</p><p><br/></p><p>The Children programs are, but not limited to, the following:</p><ul><li><p>social skills</p></li><li><p>transitioning to high school</p></li><li><p>tutoring</p></li><li><p>summer programs</p></li><li><p>math programs</p></li><li><p>reading programs</p></li><li><p>a social club</p><p><br/></p></li></ul><p>The Youth programs are, but not limited to, the following:</p><ul><li><p>youth group</p></li><li><p>transition to post secondary</p></li><li><p>employment training</p></li></ul><p><br/></p><p>The Adult programs are, but not limited to, the following:</p><ul><li><p>transition to post secdonary</p></li><li><p>employment training</p></li></ul><p><br/></p><p>There are many ways to get involved and volunteer.  It is all laid out nicely on their website.</p><p><br/></p><p>Both the Public and Catholic school board in Windsor Essex help to fund these programs and services as well as many others.
