         <description><![CDATA[<div>The purpose for teaching social studies is to give students knowledge of people, places, and events/experiences (near and far) and teach them how to treat people democratically.<br>Democracy is the responsibility of everyone who will be effected.<br><br><strong>How does this look in the classroom?<br><br></strong>Democracy doesn't materialize out of thin air but it takes work.<strong><br></strong>The school is the ideal place for young people to learn democracy and citizenship.<br>- They are in public places.<br>- People come from diverse worlds.<strong><br></strong><br><br></div>]]></description>
