In addition, the boy has displayed behavior that he's learned over the years from his father, including violence and anger. In addition, Paragraph 7 explains how democracy can be attacked but never defeated. This shows how in the end, the people will be equal and we can reach this goal.

Ethos: Gorman makes people trust her by proving that she is being greatly affected by this issue, in paragraph 2. She also keeps saying "we", saying that we are all in this together, including her, so she can talk about it.

Pathos: Gorman uses very powerful words and phrases in order to make people reading/listening feel pride for the nation, but also understand the improvements we can make. 2. I am able to follow along pretty well. Being able to read the play on my own computer while reading as a class really helps with this, and acting it out makes all of the emotions more prevalent and easy-to-understand.

3. All of the discussions seem to be helping with understanding the play better, with the campfires and other forms of more individual discussion. Hearing other people's thoughts, connections, and analysis of the play gives me a new perspective and lets me understand the play from all angles. "9TH JUROR: Attention, maybe." (Rose 43)

This brings up a whole new perspective for the jurors to think about. The 9th juror later states how he had been analyzing the old man during his testimony. Things like the way he walked, and how he dressed gave the 9th juror an impression. This impression did not come from nothing however, because the 9th juror is also an older man and would be able to understand another older man a lot better than the younger jurors. 

This all ties into our experiences influencing how we perceive others. Since the 9th juror was an older man he would have more similarities and commonalities with the old man who testified. When compared to the younger jurors, the 9th jurors new perspective came from his experiences throughout his life. “Six to six! I’m telling you, some of you people in here are out of your minds. A kid like that” (Rose 59). 

In this quote the 10th juror is angry that 2 more people have voted not guilty. In the beginning it was 11 to 1 and more people have been slowly switching over. The 10th juror is adamant about him being guilty. He cannot view the situation from another perspective. He is only looking at the case for face value, and also using his perception of the boy as a bias towards his vote. This makes him call the others “out of their minds” as he cannot fathom how someone can think differently. He also calls the kid a “kid like that” implying he has a bias.

This quote connects to the essential question because it is about the 10th juror's perception of the boy based on his experience and attitude. The 10th juror has been angry the whole time, and has been wanting to get it over with from the get go. This attitude makes his experience a foul one. This experience makes him angry, and makes him jump to conclusions quickly. This all makes him very biased towards his own perspective. When you have this attitude it gives you a negative experience making you biased and self-centered.

In contrast, Rose focuses on the bad parts of the present, in which people from the slums, for example, are being discriminated against, even in court. However, similarly to Gorman, Rose also shows the good in society and that it can be reformed through Juror 8, and his ability to convince the entire jury. Finally, Gorman is a little pessimistic about the past, saying that we have not made a huge amount of progress, but rather a limited amount.
