The Population of Myanmar

Myanmar as of 2017, has a population of 55,123,814. The majority ethnic group of Myanmar are the Burmans. They make up 68% of the countries population. Other groups that make up the population include the Shan, Karen, Rakhine, and the Chinese ethnic groups. Myanmar has a low birth rate with 0.91. Because of this, the population is shrinking. The sex ratio varies and has more males at birth and stays that way until when you get to the 25-54 years old ratio and ratios older than that, then there are more females in that section of the population. Myanmar’s population is mostly made of adults from 25 to 54 years old and life expectancy for males is 65 and 69 for females. Myanmar has a low urban population and it has pollution around its urban centers. Urban area citizens have more access to clean water than rural people by 18.3%. Sanitation facility access is also better in urban areas by 10.4%. The risk of disease is very high whether it is a food or waterborne disease or if it is HIV or Aids. Education expenditures are very low with only about 0.8% of the countries GDP is spent on education. School is also only 8 years compared to other nations. Literacy in the country is about only 75.6 because of the lack of schools in the country

Myanmar, or Burma, has a thriving economy. With a GDP real growth rate of 7.2% in 2017, Burma ranks 7th internationally. Burma’s exceptional GDP real growth exemplifies a successful and stable economy. Yet, Myanmar’s GDP per capita is at a staggeringly low USD $6,300, which shows that the citizens of Myanmar, on average, are financially struggling. Also, as of 2017, 26% of Burma’s population lives below the poverty line and 77.4% of the population uses improved sanitation. Myanmar’s majority imports include fabrics and crude oil, and its major exports include natural gas and wood products. Myanmar’s distribution of economic activities shows that the majority of economic activities are services at 39.9% of the economy. This shows Myanmar’s advancing economy.
