The first thing you do to multiply a whole number by a fraction is make the whole number a fraction by putting the denominator as a 1 so it's still a whole number now you multiply 12 X 4 = 48 and 16 X 1 = 16 so 48/16 now reduce by divide 48 by 3 witch =16 so the answer would be 3

First, you make the whole number into a fraction by making the whole number as the numerator and the 1 as the denominator. Then, you multiply across. After doing that, you have have your answer, but if the numerator is greater than the denominator you're going to have to divide the fraction, so you divide the numerator and the denominator. Last but not least, when you do it the number of how many times the smaller number can go into the bigger number. That's the whole number and then the number that had to go into the other number to divide it, that's the denominator and then the answer at the end is going to be the numerator.
