She then has massive headaches and some pain. She can never remember what happened on Summer 15. Did somebody push her? Tried to kill her? Why was she found in the ocean? Why can't she remember most things of Summer 15? Is the Sinclair family really perfect? What will happen when she remembers what happened in Summer 15?

My group chose that my book "Our Crooked Hearts" has the best opening paragraph. I think it is compelling because it already has action in the first paragraph, showcasing that the characters are already in danger. I find a starter like that really draws the reader in, and it makes you want to continue reading. The paragraph makes you wonder why they are fleeing, or if they are escaping. The atmosphere of the paragraph is dark and kind of scary because you don't know if the characters are in danger, it is very mysterious because you don't know what is happening and why they are driving away to quickly. We don't know what is happening and what is going on. In my opinion that is a really good start to a book, one that is full of mystery and suspense. When the author says "we were going too fast" it sounds like they might be fleeing, that really makes you want to read the book and just keep turning the pages!

My group chose Gabriella's book, Our Crooked Hearts. I found this paragraph appealing and mysterious because it didn't have a lot of details which made it have suspense, which can attract people to read more and to know more about the story. This is shown when it was written, "whisking away." which shows suspense at the end. It makes us ask questions like, "What will happen next?" "What's going on?" You can also be asking, what is happening with the girl? We can ask these questions for the first sentence of the paragraph: "We are going to fast." This shows a lot of suspense which also shows how it can engage people to read the rest of the book.

My group chose the first paragraph of The book Our Crooked Hearts. I think this book had a very good opening paragraph because it was very mysterious and the book is about a mystery. "we were going too fast" was an example making it mysterious. I liked that because my book's opening paragraph isn't very mysterious while this book is and that brings you in and gets you interested the second you start the book. It was not a doubt that this was the best opening paragraph in our group. It was very easy to vote for it.

My group voted for the opening paragraph of Gabriella's book: Our crooked hearts. We chose this as it shows action in the beginning "We were going too fast. Too close to the trees, weeds feathering over our headlights, whisking away." Page 1 first sentence. This makes you wonder: why is she going too fast? Is she escaping something? What is happening? And it is those sort of questions from this sentence that makes you want to read more to be able to solve the question you have and then the more you read the more it will hook you in. It also shows the main character in a sort of danger which makes it interesting, or at least more interesting than a character introducing characters and the start of the story becoming boring. This paragraph has so much mystery as you don't know if the main character is in danger or not and you know what is going on in her head and what is happening to her.

I think that is was a very good and engaging opening paragraph which would leave the reader wanting to know what happened. For example the book started off by saying " We were going too fast" and that line made us very curious about what's going to happen and another example is " Too close to the trees, weeds feathering over our headlights, whisking away " and this sentence was very detailed and you can really imagine what their talking about and I think that's why they voted for the book but I didn't vote for this book because I felt that mine was better.

I would invite Ivy and her mother Dana to my dinner party so both of them could talk everything out. I would invite Ivy's aunt Fee too because she too knows about the secrets Dana is hiding from Ivy. She knows how to explain stuff that will be upsetting in a kind and good way. On the other hand I would not invite Marion because she would slaughter 5 rabbits before you know it. I would host my dinner at the restaurant called Black Tap because it has a dark and gloomy atmosphere, most of the restaurants in the book have this creepy and dark atmosphere. It will feel homey. I would also invite Billy, Ivy's boyfriend, so he can keep Ivy company, and keep everyone in a good mood and stop them from fighting or using magic against each other. I would go to black tap also because they have amazing milkshakes, and they are good for someone who has a sweet tooth, like Ivy and Billy do.

This picture is Claire Danes in 1996 in Romeo and Juliette. I think she would play well the role of Cady ( Cadence ) as she would play well a 17 year old character as she looks like the person I imagined but different hair color ( my main character has blond hair and then black hair ) but you can use a wig for that. As my character also has trauma and is a bit sick we can use makeup for that. She played in Stardust, Shopgirl, Romeo and Juliet and even voice-acts in princess Mononoke. If my book was a movie and she went to act in it I would hire her young self which looks like a 17 year old.

Here are the people that I would invite to the dinner. This is Guy Haines, I invited him because he is a famous well-known Architect with many funny stories which can be enjoyable. Here is Arthur Gerard and he is a very passionate serious detective with many crime stories so he can give us a lot of interesting stories about the criminals he caught. I also invited Anne Faulkner because she is the wife of Guy Haines she is kind and calm so I think she should be invited to the dinner party.

I would invite the four liars ( they aren't really liars ) : Cady, Gat, Johnny and Mirren. It would be fun to have them at a regular pizza restaurant like the the Brooklyn pizzeria in Paris next to my appartement which is perfect for teenagers as it has amazing LED lights and glass bottle with lights. It has a nice and cozy atmosphere. I would invite them as they are basically best friends. I would invite them in the Summer as it's the only time they are best friends ( they don't see each other or else ). Johnny would be funny and keep the good mood up with Mirren which would tell fun stories. Gat would say important meanings and ask questions and Cady would keep the group together with good answers and she would gossip with Mirren. I would love to invite the dogs ( labradors or golden retrievers ) Poppy,Bosh, Grendel,Prince Philip and Fatima but as cute as they are I don't think that restaurant allows dogs sadly. I wouldn't invite their parents ( Penny, Bess and Carrie ) as they would spoil the whole fun by arguing, especially about the inheritance of their father and mother. They would ruin the fun and freedom of the four liars.

We would talk about the murder mystery game she played, how she felt and what happened.

End of the second week, I find Cady coming and sitting down next to me in the yard.

I am building a structure out of lego which I found at Red Gate. I see that Cady has food: some pickles, cheese straws, and leftover grilled tuna from the new Clairmont kitchen. We decide to not go on the roof since it’s just the two of us. We open the containers and line them up on the edge of the dirty porch. I start talking about trying to build Hogwarts out of Lego. Or a Death Star. Or, wait! Even better is a lego tuna fish to hang in New Clairmont now that none of Grandad’s taxidermy is there anymore. That’s it. Too bad there’s not enough Lego on this stupid island for a visionary project such as this.

I do prefer doing this instead of talking about that day, not that she can remember. Then she asks me: “ Why didn’t you call or email after my accident?” I don’t know if she was planning to say this. I answer “ Oh, Cady” I can’t really answer until she remembers. I ask “ You don’t want to talk about Lego tuna fish instead?” She replies with “ I thought maybe you were annoyed with me about those emails. The ones I sent asking about Gat.”

“No, no.” “ I disappeared because I’m a jerk. Because I don’t think through my choices and I’ve seen too many action movies and I’m kind of a follower .” She looks at me and says “ Really? I don’t think that about you.” I respond with “ It’s an undeniable fact.” I drink some water until she says “You weren’t mad?” “I was just a stupid person. But not mad. Never mad. I’m sorry, Cadence.” And I mean it, I do. She answers with thanks. I pick up a handful of Legos and start fitting them together.

She then asks me “Why did Gat disappear? Do you know?” I sigh. “That’s another question”

“He told me I don’t know the real him.” I responded with “ Could be true.” I mean in some ways that is true. Then she asks me a question I don’t want to answer. “ He doesn't want to discuss my accident. Or what happened with us that summer. He wants us to act normal and like nothing happened.” I look down and start lining up my Legos in stripes: blue, white and green. I try to ignore the image of a burning house and the smoke suffocating, so suffocating. I say “Gat had been annoying to that girl Raquel, by starting up with you. He knew it wasn’t right and he hated himself for that.” She responds with “Ok.” She didn’t look convinced. “ He didn’t want to be that kind of guy. He wants to be a good person. And he was really angry that summer, about all kinds of things. When he wasn’t there for you, he hated himself even more.” “ You think?” “ I’m guessing.” I say. “Is he going out with anyone?” I reply hoping to make the tension loosen:” Aw Cady, he’s a pretentious person. I love him like a brother, but you’re too good for him. Go find yourself a nice Vermont guy with muscles like Drake Loggerhead.” Then I start cracking up. She starts laughing and says “ You’re useless.” I wink and say “ I can’t deny it but you’ve got to stop being such a worry-always person.

At the beginning Guy Haines was on a train to divorce Miriam, his unfaithful wife. It is on this train where he meets Charles Bruno and they share their stories on how Guy wants to be relieved from his unfaithful wife and how Bruno doesn’t like his father and wants his inheritance then Bruno drunkenly gets an idea to exchange murders and after hearing that idea Guy laughs to make it seem that the conversation was a joke however Bruno was serious. Then Bruno actually did go ahead with the plan and murders Miriam by strangling her at an amusement park and Guy is notified by this when he was taking a vacation with Anne, the love of his life, by a phone call made from none other than Bruno. Then after many letters and phone calls Guy murders Bruno’s father then shortly after Bruno passes away himself then Guy who stayed quiet about the murders couldn’t handle the pressure of the guilt so he decides to confess. In the beginning of the story guy has a very passive personality which allows him to be easily manipulated and persuaded and seem as he is weak but then at the end of the book he starts taking control of his life and actions and refuses to let Bruno control him by his plans and Guy decides to confess to the police which shows he is not allowing others to take controls of his actions which shows his passive personality turning into a responsible personality.

Then Bruno got an Idea to kill for each other so Guy laughed to make the conversation appear as a joke but Bruno was serious then when Guy was on vacation with Anne he received a letter from Bruno which said that Bruno killed Guy’s unfaithful wife Miriam by strangling her and how Guy had to now kill Bruno’s father otherwise he would get framed by Bruno that he killed his wife. After Guy killed Bruno’s father Bruno passed away and Guy felt guilt so he confessed his actions.
