This consist of six players on each side, the players use their hands to push the ball back and forth over a high net. Trying to make the ball touch the court within the opponents' playing area before it can be returned. To prevent this a player on the opposing team bats the ball up and toward a teammate before it touches the court surface, that teammate may then volley it back across the net it to a third teammate who volleys it back across the net. A team is only allowed three touches of the ball before it must  be returned over the net.

The rules for volleyball is that there are 6 players on a team, 3 on the front of the row and 3 on the back row. Maximum of three hits per side. Player may not hit the ball twice in a succession, ball may be played off the net during a volley and on a serve. A ball hitting a boundary line is "in" and a ball us "out" if it hits an antennae (the floor completely outside the court, net). It's legal to contract the ball with any part of a players body, it is illegal to catch, hold, or throw the ball. A player can not block or attack a serve from on or inside the 10 foot line. After the serve, front line players may switch positions at the net.

A typical set is up to at least 5 sets in where the first team needs to win 5 sets to win the match. In 1922, the YMCA national championships. In 1949, the world view championships were held Prague, Czechoslovakia. In 1984 the United States. won their first medals.

It first appeared  1964, when the Olympics came to Tokyo for the first time. 

One the man's team it was between the USSR, Japan, and Czechoslovakia, with the USSR pulling out the gold. In the women’s event, Japan came out on top. 

Between 1964 and 1980, the USA Olympic volleyball team didn’t claim any spots on the podium, despite being the sport’s birth place. Instead, the USSR was a consistent top performer, taking gold in both the men and women’s events at the 1968 Mexico City Games (Japan’s men’s and women’s teams took silver; the bronze medal in men’s went to Czechoslovakia while the women’s bronze went to Poland).
