It’s important for us as a company to be aware of all these laws as there will be many employees working for us. During the construction and post-construction periods, we will hire employees and they will be doing a lot of manual labour. Thus, we need to ensure that they are fairly compensated for their labour and also get other benefits like holidays. The workers have the right to feel protected in their work environment and this legislation contains laws that protect the workers against discrimination and harassment.

WorkplaceLaws.(n.d.).Éducaloi.https://educaloi.qc.ca/en/capsules/workplace-laws/

We have chosen this source because Educaloi is a reputable non-legislative information organization based in Quebec, Canada that provides up-to-date information. This source sets out standards regarding working conditions on various subjects such as: “minimum wage (division I), public holidays (division III), psychological and sexual harassment (division V.0.1)” and other legal issues covered in Chapter IV of the Act respecting labour standards related to our SuperMarket (Workplace Protections in Quebec, 2024).

This source highlights various elements on minimum wage. For example, employers must pay their workers for the work they have done with the minimum wage precisely being $15.25 per hour for general workers which is what we will pay our entry-level workers. It also states that the employer must pay their employees by either in cash in a sealed envelope, by cheque that can be cashed within two working days or by bank transfer. The employer must also pay you for work that was done on a trial basis even if it was 5 hours. These issues are all potential to our company as we must make sure that our employees are getting paid at least $15.25 per hour. We will pay our employees via direct bank transfer as it is an acceptable and secure method according to this Act. Also before we hire our employees, we will be conducting trial shifts. Therefore, when we hire a construction worker on a five-hour trial basis to see how well they can lay out the bricks, we will pay them regardless of whether they’re hired for the project or not. As for our supermarket employees, we will hire employees for different roles like cashiers. We will pay them for the 6 hours they worked being evaluated for their skills. This Act also emphasizes the employers’ responsibility to protect their employees by having a sexual harassment policy that covers two components: rules to prevent harassment and process to report and stop any harassment once it has occurred. As a company, we will establish a clear policy against sexual harassment. This is relevant to our business because for example an employee might feel uncomfortable when persistently approached by their colleague. So it's important that they report these actions to feel safe but also to prevent this act from repeating again.

For the purpose of our business, it will help us lay out all the necessary regulations relating to the specifics of employment laws.

This source states all the regulations relating to the workplace environment. More specifically it talks about the “maximum amount to be paid for meals and accommodation” in division III section 6 that relates to our business (CQLR c N-1.1, r 3). It is possible that our construction workers may have to work away from their usual residence. This regulation mandates our company to provide them with accommodations and meals paid by the employer or the maximum amount for accommodations will be charged to the employees. In our case, the employer will provide the required arrangements. For our supermarket employees, we aren’t allowed to hire children under the age of 14 as set out in section 84.3 of the Act. However, there is an exception to our case. In section 35.0.3 division 5, if the child is working in a family business where there are less than 10 employees, they are eligible to work. Keeping in mind that when we start out our family business, we only have about 10-15 employees. Thus if any children from our families want to work as an employee at the store, they can do so. However, they must work under the supervision of a person 18 years of age or over at all times.

It lists the ranking and categories of hazardous wastes and the legislative requirements for each different management and safety regulation. It says that the provincial level has many organizations for waste management issues for different legislations. Furthermore, it explains that The Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA) is enforced by Environment Climate Change Canada (ECCC) at the federal level. Fresh Market must know the categories of hazardous material and how they must treat each category based on jurisdiction.
