Use strong words to emphasize your stance
- Notice in the example the use of words such as: hoping, supports, and encourages.
- Strong vocabulary works to make your position clearly known.

2. Think of your stance and topic statement as a thesis statement.
- Within the example the issue and stance is the very last sentence, which is the same for typical thesis statements.
- Your stance and topic sentence will set up your entire essay

3. Use interesting or shocking information the topic in the hook.
- Talking about the effect the topic has on the world is a great way to introduce the topic and make your writing interesting. Ex from above: Climate change has slowly crippled the Earth...
- You don't put specific statistical information in the first paragraph (you will in the second paragraph), but just something to give the readers a basic understanding of the topic.
- This shows the chairs you have some sort of understanding about the topic.

This is well highlighted within the Statista report, which acknowledges the 60 percent drop of carbon emissions from 1996 to 2019 by the incorporation of renewable sources in the country (statista, 2022). More specifically, previous actions used to combat the ever looming problem of climate change are outlined within the various initiatives put forth in the past decade. Their initiatives have a large focus on the utilization of bioenergy and wind energy in the production of energy for the entire country. As of 2021, 46.8 percent of the electricity supply within Denmark is produced from wind energy, while biomass makes up roughly 11 percent of the electricity supply (International Trade Administration, 2021). The investment in climate change was made possible by government spending on projects and partnerships with private sector companies. The use of Public-Private partnership has allowed for the creation of economic diversification to make the country more competitive on the global scale, which has in turn helped to bolster the GDP of Denmark. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark states, “The Danish government, together with the business community, has established 13 climate partnerships which identify ideas that can help address climate change.” The Public-Private partnership has been vital for the continuation of the decrease of carbon emissions within the kingdom. Moreover, in 2020 Denmark pledged to end all oil and gas exploration by the year 2050 in order to reinvest the funds into the development of a green sector to overall benefit their climate change initiatives (Yale.edu, 2021). *The Kingdom of Denmark has taken major transitions both economically and socially in order to effectively combat the problem of climate change.*

Highlighted: Solution

*This example only has one solution as it was a 2 topic committee*

Committee: Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

Topic: Climate change mitigation for the sixth assessment report

The delegation of Denmark has put forth a strategic and multifaceted plan that works to effectively target various areas of concern. The plan is appropriately named GREENER to highlight the importance of a greener society to overall benefit those living in it. The plan is an acronym that has a specific idea with every letter. The first letter G stands for the granting of public-private partnerships. This program hopes to achieve the success that Denmark’s own program has conquered. This will be primarily based on Denmark’s previous initiative. The goals include the establishment of regulations with the interest of industry in mind and an increase in economic diversification. The second letter is R, which represents the reinforcement of electronic transportation. This section of the plan has various parts pertaining to the lessening of taxes on those with electric vehicles, extending the charging point network, and promoting the use of cycling through social media projects. To move on, E stands for electrification and energy efficiency improvements within the industry and building for an economic incentive. This would include the inclusion of solar panels, optimization of insulation, and water-saving taps. The second E within the plan is the establishment of a circular economy. A circular economy has been utilized in various countries including Germany and Italy. This type of economy is one in which takes a systemic approach to economic development by ensuring the resources are used in a way that they maintain their highest value for as long as possible. An example would include, creating a plastic water bottle to be reusable. This economic strategy is extremely effective and simple to implement. N is representative of the idea of using a carbon tax to lessen carbon emissions. Many advantages have stemmed from the tax including investment within clean technology and a generated revenue that has the ability to be recycled into the green economy. The third E relates the encouragement of renewable resources such as bioenergy, solar power, and windpower. The last letter, R, is the recommendation of the use of an open ended working group to ensure the use of monestarization and progression of carbon emissions.

Yes and no. In order to be qualified for any awards you MUST write a position paper. For example, if you do extremely well in committee, but do not write a position paper before the conference then you will not be eligible no matter your score. It is best to write a paper as you not only gain a better understanding of your topic and position but also are able to win awards.
