Muhammad Yunus (Bangladesh: মুহাম্মদ ইউনুস Muhammad Yunus; Chittagong (, June 28, 1940) is a Bangladeshi professor, economist, writer, and entrepreneur who founded Grameen Bank in 1976, the world's first microcredit bank, a model that offers small loans to people in vulnerable situations.

But your story goes far beyond, far beyond. With more than 50 companies on the curriculum focused primarily on social business, his work has helped develop many entrepreneurs, fighting poverty in India. The impact of his performance is so important that he won Yunus the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.

The "Banker of the Poor", as he is known, has always invested in welcoming Indian women — almost all of his clients are women. This attitude has important relevance since they live in a territory in which they need to fight against social ties and a repressive economic system. In practice, the bank grants loan to women without the traditional requirements of commercial banks.

In 1983, Grameen Bank became an official bank to provide loans to the impoverished, especially women in rural Bangladesh. Currently, the bank has more than 2,500 branches and provides services in more than 80,000 villages in India. In 2019, Forbes magazine considered the institution one of the five most innovative companies with the greatest social impact in the year. The idea has spread to almost every country in the world, including the most industrialized ones.

"Our main mission is to use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. We foster businesses that promote jobs, education, health, water, and energy, all in a sustainable way," explains Tulio Notini, Director of Corporate Innovation at Yunus Social Business.

For Tulio, the tribute that Muhammad Yunus received at the opening of the Olympic Games, besides being deserved, can be a kick to increase the visibility of the work done by Yunus. "It is the chance to reinforce the teacher's message, that we need to organize ourselves to transform society and generate a better future for all.
