Handover , emails, answerphone, turnover of the potting shed and the Shepards hut. Checked guests in and out 

Everyday as a warden was the same jobs and tasks.

On Monday I did handover with 4 different guests, I took them to their pitch and showed them around the campsite, showed them where the facilities where and told them where our reception was incase they needed anything else. I also answred a few phone calls of people booking pitches, enquiring about what our campsite is like and what facilities we provide.

Monday is changeover day in the potting shed so we had to turn over the potting shed, deep clean it and reset all the bedding and cutlery and kitchen supplies that would be needed in there. I took all the rubbish to the bins and finally hoovered the hut. The hut was then ready for the next guest to arrive at 11:40.

At the end of the Monday shift I assisted the manager on duty sign out a guest so I could do this by my self on Tuesday.

Each day we did this but instead of the potting shed we did the shepards huts.

On Tuesday I started my day at 9am, I checked in 5 different guests, 3 of them were in caravans and the other 2 were pitching tents. This means that I had to take 3 of them round the caravan hard standing pitch and show them where there facilities are and then I had to take the campers in tents to their pitches which on a grass field. I took some online bookings and replied to some emails requiring about any availability on our hard standing pitches in august but we had no availability as Whitby is really busy around august because of regatta weekend. I cleaned the shower rooms, replaced the toilet roll and hand soap in the toilets. After this we went back to the office and took some more phone calls and then handed over to the night staff. We were then ready for the night and went home.

Wednesday - on Wednesday we were really squirt there was only one guest to check in and they had already been to the campsite before so they didn’t want showing around they just wanted to go straight to their pitch and get sorted for the night as they had a long drive down to get here. We then went and turned over the potting shed so this entails changing all the bedding, hoovering, mopping, changing the pillows on the couch. Changing the books in the bookshelf and cleaning the kitchen. This took about 2/3 hours in total so after that we went and checked over the toilets and kitchen to make sure everyone has everything that they needed.

Thursday

Thursday was an average day so we started by replying to emails. And checking if there was any missed phone calls and then got on with cleaning the toilets showers and laundry room. All of the glamping pods were busy so we didn’t need to clean or turn them over. So Thursday was just about going around the campsite checking people out and putting the delivery away.

Morning staff finished at 3 that day so we handed over quite early and went our separate ways

Friday

On my last day of work experience I was quite happy to do things on my own. So I started off with checking some guests in. Taking them to their pitches and showing them where there facilities were, after this I went to the office checked the phone and emails , replied to some more enquires and returned the calls. We then went round and mowed the fields as the camping field was going to be full the next day so it needed cutting to make it easier to put up tents.

We cleaned the kitchen and washing area.

I learnt a lot of skills this week and realised how much work it took to be a warden / managers of a campsite

It was good to spend time outside socialising , it made it feel like I wasn’t working, all the staff were really friendly and I made good friends with some of the customers too

I got to meet so many puppies and dogs and they were all so cute and they always wagged their tails when I walked past

All of the staff had a sunflower growing competition in the week I did my work experience and it was fun to have banter and a joke around whilst working and learning new things

At first I didn’t like answering the phone because I didn’t know the answers to the questions they were asking to start with and I felt awkward when I was saying “ Uhm “ “just give me one second” but by the end of the week I was confident enough to answer the phones by myself.

Cleaning the toilets was absolutely vile, not a fan of being a cleaner in the future but it definitely was an experience.

Even though there was a couple of negatives throughout the week, I am grateful and happy that I got the opportunity to work there for the week and develop the skills that I now have.

this campsite is great for chilled out relaxing get aways. its a simplistic campsite where everyone is clam and there for the serene atmosphere of nature
