1. The first cartoon depicts the Nazi's literally plowing through the Russians. However, the second cartoon shows the Nazi's marching into a skull; symbolizing death. This cartoon instead is telling that the Nazi's will all die.
2. Each cartoon touches on the fact that Hitler is terrible and he is destroying and ruining everything. Whether it be that people are upset he is winning or are trying to destroy him, the message of the Nazi's being bad is spread. the last one shows Stalin/Russia basically destroying Hitler/Nazi's (like the second one)
3. The average American would have understood that the Soviet Union, even though they had the advantage, was being overthrown by the Nazi's. It also shows that it was not an easy battle at all and there was a lot of back and forth and a lot of death.

4. I think the last one conveys the message the best because it really shows how many people and how much damage the Nazi's did. It also represents the Nazi's as something terrible which is exactly what they were.

1. Three of the cartoons have the Nazi symbol on them and all of them are depicted in black and white. They all are displaying relatively the same thing. They are all displaying the hatred for Nazis. They are different because the style of each cartoon in vast, some showing more gory/dark/hard-hitting images while others remain more lighthearted.
2. All of the cartoons display how Hitler is controlling and actually making his way towards defeat. They are all either mocking Hitler or simply expressing the constraints Hitler brought in their world.
3. The cartoons educate Americans on the status of the war, supplying them with information on who is dominating the war and fighting back. 4. The Gateway to Stalingrad best displays its message. It is almost as though the Nazis are walking into their defeat and the skull is the battle of Stalingrad. It displays that the Soviet Union was actually dominating the war and was better prepared to win than the Nazis.

The message in the first cartoon is that Hitler will keep plowing through Russia killing as many people as he can in his path. The message in the second cartoon is showing when the Germans went to Russia they were walking into a death trap. The message in the third cartoon is that the US was watching from the sides for so long worrying, but then they got involved in the war and held Germany off a little giving the US a sense of pride. The fourth cartoon's message is showing how the Soviet Union was able to beat Germany
3.I think the average American thought the Soviet Union

Two of them have animals and the other two don't.
2.
a. The Soviet Union is killing the Nazi's and they are happy about it.
b. They are all reading the bad news not the good news. More bad than good news.
c. Shows the Nazi's marching to their death.
d. Shows the Nazis being pushed out/ rolled away.
3. The cartoons help the US understand that the Soviet Union was dominating and the Nazis were becoming smaller and smaller. Before they probably thought that since the Soviet Union is so much bigger than the Nazi's that the Soviet Union would win.
4. The first and fourth were definitely the best at conveying the message. They really explain how the Nazis were being taken over by the Soviet Union. They also showed how the Soviet Union was not the best place to be and also how horrible they are.

They are different because the roast Adolf cartoon, for example, is supposed to be light hearted and funny, where And If Russia Is Crushed shows how the Germans are plowing over and killing so many.
2)
a. And if Russia is crushed shows the fear of Russian defeat
b. Good news, bad news shows the concern of the invasion of Russia
c. Gateway to Stalingrad shows the potential danger and stupidness of entering Stalingrad
d. They're Serving Roast Adolf at Joe's House Tonight shows how Hitler is a pig and an awful person who deserves to be treated as badly as we treat the animals we eat. He has a nazi hat on and a fork stabbing him in the back. He looks weak and small compared to Stalin

1. The similarities are the fact that there are nazi symbols and the word Nazi written on the cartoon. They are different from each other because some cartoons appear more dark and death like while others are easier on the eye.
2. The cartoons try to show that Hitler and the Nazi's are unsuccessful people. They are trying to attract people to look at these cartoons so they can see the failure and defeat of Hitler.
3. The cartoon helped show the defeat of Hitler. It educated Americans that the SU was slowly dominating and diminishing Hitler.
4. I think the skull cartoon is the most powerful. It shows the Nazis walking into a skull so basically death. And it shows the large number of Nazi slowly getting smaller. It is drawn well to show how this time period was very brutal and lots of death occurred. To me is seems a little like an image representing hell.

The cartoons are all similar in that they are regarding the defeat of the Nazis. They are different because some are predicting outcomes of the war, and others are pride that the country has in itself.
2. a. The first cartoon is about how Stalin will defeat Hitler. It shows him in a powerful light, and that the Nazis will be easily defeated.
b. The second cartoon
c. The third cartoon depicts how when the Nazis try to challenge the Soviet Union, they are ultimately walking to their death. It shows the Nazis marching into a skull, which shows that they will be easily defeated by the Soviet Union.
d. The fourth cartoon is from the perspective of the Americans, who fear that the Soviet Union will be defeated by Germany. It portrays the Nazis as a giant swastica which will easily absorb the powers of Russia.
3. It would make the Soviet Union seem extremely powerful and probably make them fear entering the war. It makes them seem more superior. It makes them appear stronger than Germany, who had extreme amounts of success at the time.
4. The first or the third cartoon seem to be the most effective because of their creative outlook on the war. They portray Stalin as extremely powerful, to the point where Hitler is as easily defeated as a pig. This would bring hope and pride to Russia, which would ultimately be more effective. The other cartoon shows the Nazis walking to their death when they enter the war. This again shows a sense of pride from the Soviet Union's perspective. They are saying that the Nazis will be so easy to defeat that the second they enter the war, they are practically already defeated.

Each cartoon is trying to turn people away from the Nazis and rooting for the Soviet Union. It is making the Nazis seem like they will not win and that they only lead to death. It made the soviets seem like the better party.
3. These cartoons are definitely bias toward the soviet union because it makes them seem superior to the nazis. It portrays the Nazi's as an inferior and deadly party (which they were). They will help the Russians understand the danger of Hitler and how the world would be if he came to power.
4. I think that one of the most convincing posters was the one of all the Nazis parading into the skull because it made it seem like the Nazi's were going to lead to death.

A lot of them predict that Russia will win the war, however the first one shows victory and one of Dr. Seuss' does not predict either. The Nazi's defeat is pictured in the majority of the cartoons.
2. Each cartoon is sort of serving as hope for the people and a reminder of what they need to fight for and what they need to fight against.
3. Clearly the Soviet Union was viewed as an extremely powerful country and if it was conquered Hitler would have all that land, all their people, and all their resources which would be disastrous. These cartoons helped show everyone that the Soviets were someone that you wanted on your side and that they were very powerful.
4. I think the cartoon with the swastika plowing through Russia is the most effective. If the Nazi's take Russia, they'll surely take everyone else. You need to help us prevent this. This is an extremely powerful message and a good warning to everyone.
