Like in flowers for Algernon, When Charlie had a low IQ, people wouldn't accept Charlie and would interact with him, making him feel inferior. On the other hand, when Charlie's intelligence grew, people would stop interacting with him since now the ideas were logsided and now everyone felt inferior to Charlie.
