Common name: Americans with Disabilities Act
Year: 1990
Proceedings: This law forbids discrimination against people with disabilities in both public and private sectors. It allows for a clear standard that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities without respect for their age, nature, or extent of disability. This law is unique because there isn't a law (So far in this time) that has protected them in public AND private situations. It also now encompasses a larger amount of people than previous laws have. This law covers any person with an impairment that substantially limits a major life activity.
Implications: This law benefits those in working fields who have a disability because it protects them during the hiring and termination processes. It also helps them by having their employers give them "reasonable accommodations" that will help them do their job just like anyone else. This benefits students because it allows them to be seen for more than just their disability. Since people are now not allowed to use their disability as an excuse they can do more things. Along with things within the classroom. There have to be accommodations that help the child perform like anyone else. This impacts parents because it will now be easier when they go places to be able to help their children. It will also impact them because they will be able to see the differences and changes being made for their child which indirectly impacts them. This impacts the teacher because if they hadn't done so before now they had to make accommodations for the child without it taking them away from what everyone else is doing.
Pillars of Education: This law falls under nondiscriminatory/ Identification and evaluation. It falls under this one because it prohibits discrimination. It also falls under FAPE because it gives the students the same rights to attend school just like all children. They now can go to public school feeling the same way as all of the other children because they now don't have to worry as much about the discrimination.

Common name: Education of the Handicapped Act Amendments
Year:1986
Proceedings: This law mandates services for preschoolers with disabilities from ages three to five. It also permitted early intervention services for infants and toddlers, from birth through age two, with developmental delays or disabilities. This also brought about an IFSP (Individualized family service plan) for infants and toddlers. It also brought about the term "Developmentally delayed." This law is unique because it shows the importance of the families in the development of the children. This also brings about the idea of services being given to children with disabilities at birth. Before this law children weren't allowed to get services until they were three years old.
Implications: This benefits the students and children because the sooner they get the accommodations that they need the sooner they can develop at a parallel rate as other children. If children had to continue to wait until they were three to get services they would be further behind than they would be if they got services right away. This affects the parents because it allows them to know that there are things in place to help their children even when they are young. They don't have to sit around and wait until they are allowed to get the services they need.
Pillars of Special Education: Zero rejection would be a pillar it would fall under because this law includes children starting at birth. They aren't leaving any children out.

Common name: Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
Year:1990
Proceedings: This law added Autism and traumatic brain injury to the category of disabilities. It was now mandated that as a part of a student's IEP, an individual transition plan must be developed to help the student transition to post-secondary life. The term "developmentally delayed" was now expanded to encompass those from birth to five years old, also including students between the ages of six and nine.
Implications: This benefited students who have traumatic brain injuries or those who have autism. This allows those students to be able to use the services given to those who have disabilities. This affects the parents indirectly because this law now allows their children, who might have been struggling, to be able to get services because it is now considered a disability.
Pillars of Special Education: This law would fall under the pillar of FAPE because it allows those with traumatic brain injuries and autism, now considered disabilities, to receive services ( in education).

Year: 1982
Proceedings: This hearing shows that the laws are there to give them appropriate and reasonable accommodations, not accommodations that will make them "the best."
Implications: This hearing affects students because it shows them that these services are here to help you and accommodate you but they are not here to give you an extra advantage or give you resources that you do not need. This affects teachers because it shows them the limit of what is acceptable and what is not. The child's IEP should tell and guide the teacher in what the student is allowed to have and use as accommodations.
Pillars of Special Education: FAPE plays an important role in this hearing. This pillar is what gave her the services she was allowed to have in the first place. Due to FAPE, she was able to get appropriate accommodations.
