Read the case study posted on google classroom. Answer the following prompt in 4 or more sentences: What could Jeanine have done to be better prepared for this meeting? Consider the different demographics and age groups you will be working with when you have a job one day. How do you professionally communciate with an older age group when they don't understand concepts that seem easy to you? If you were in Jeanine's place, how would you communicate the appropriate process for writing for social media so that your supervisor would understand your ideas and not dismiss them so quickly? Add your response to the discussion question with your first & last name and class period as the "title".

Jeanine could have prepared better by thinking about what kind of person she is presenting to. She may have been able to make a better presentation if she presented with the inexperienced in mind. An older person is going to be less experienced with social media. When working with someone who doesnt understand something you understand completely, it is more effective to take it slow and introduce the platform before instantly throwing tons of ideas at the person. If i was in her situation I personally would have first shown examples of things similar to my ideas to show that this is how marketing works on social media.

If I was communicating with an older age group I would talk slow I and repeat myself and not get agitated. If I were Jeneane I would have prepared an alternative to her presentation, or she should have prepared more. Jeneane wasn't prepared to explain what she did, she should have come to the meeting prepared.

Jeanine could have been better prepared for the meeting by understanding that people of an older generation, such as her supervisor Kyle, are not as familiar with social media as her generation is. When trying to explain something to an older demographic, you should try to look at the situation from their perspective, and explain it using terms and examples they would likely understand. If I was in Jeanine's situation, I would have brought examples of other companies' social media accounts to demonstrate that I was running the Twitter account in a similar manner to our competitors. This would reassure Kyle that the "improper" language use was commonplace on Twitter, and he would be more receptive to my ideas for the Twitter account because he would realize that I have a more comprehensive understanding of marketing on social media than him.

You can't just choose someone random and expect them to know what to do. I could professionally communicate with someone that is of older age by simply walking them through step by step. If I was is Jeanine's place I would walking him through like I said and double check with him that he understands everything.

It would have been beneficial for Jeanine to provide a couple of sources about current social media trends and modern communication methods to prepare for this meeting with her boss. For example, she could have created a slideshow that consists of background information surrounding Twitter instead of solely presenting a list of steps. The most simple solution would be to elaborate on her list of steps by explaining her choices in detail. Since her boss is most likely part of an older age group, he might be unaware of the modern tendencies of the younger population.

Jeanine could have been more prepared for this meeting by having support for her actions or taking into account Kyle's experience with social media. Jeanine should not have assumed that Kyle would already be familiar with Twitter and should have prepared an explanation of how it works and that some non-professional communication is acceptable in a social media setting. As a coworker, Jeanine should be aware of some of Kyle's characteristics that may point to him being unaware of how social media works. She should have taken into account that Kyle may not understand that different language can be used on social media that can draw in other demographics.

When talking to a higher up or a boss it is important to ask questions ahead of time to save time and energy. She could have done some research on the topic before she created ideas, or went to someone who has more experience with twitter. Another idea is taking a slow approach and not just dumping the ideas onto someone who may not know what they are looking at. What she can do for the next time is ask if that person has ever used the platform then tell them what they are planning on doing. Some people don't want to learn what is going on in the world right now or they don't want to use social media in general, if that is the case we have to slowly explain what we are saying or show examples of twitter and how it works.

To better prepare for this meeting, Jeanine could have thought of how to support her reasoning for using contractions and abbreviations in her tweets. People in the older age group may not have a good understanding of social media, so it is necessary to explain how it can be utilized to reach younger audiences. Jeanine could have explained this by mentioning that Twitter is used to communicate more casually and that it has a character limit for its tweets, necessitating the use of contractions and abbreviations. If I were in Jeanine's place, I would provide examples of how others write on social media so that the person can see how it is used normally. In addition, it is important to be patient with the person since learning new technology is not easy. By explaining it slowly, they will be able to gradually understand how social media works.

This would have allowed her to adapt her social media writing plan to align with the company's brand and the expectations of its diverse customer base. In communicating with Kyle, it would be beneficial for Jeanine to explain her approach using clear language and provide concrete examples of successful social media campaigns from similar businesses. By directly addressing the effectiveness and relevance of her methods in a way that bridges the gap between traditional and modern communication styles, she could help Kyle understand and appreciate the value of her ideas.

Since the way that older age groups speak differs immensely from the language of younger age groups, this document would help her supervisor understand that the way Jeanine wrote her tweet would be of greater appeal to the younger people using Twitter. If I were in Jeanine’s position, I would likely explain to the supervisor how social media is presently used so that he would have a better idea of what interacting with customers through social media would look like.

To save time and effort, it's important to prepare questions before speaking with a supervisor or higher authority. Before coming up with ideas, she may have done additional research on the subject or consulted someone with more Twitter experience. Taking things slowly and not just throwing the concepts at someone who might not know what they are looking at is another idea. The following time, she should ask as to whether the person has ever used the website and then inform them of her plans. Some people prefer not to utilize social media in general or to learn about current events in the globe, if that is their choice.

Jeanine could have prepared better by understanding who she is presenting to and making her writing easier to understand considering the person's age group. In different generations, there will be different experiences with social media, so she needs to make sure that the person listening to her presentation understands what she is talking about. To be more professional when communicating with different age groups, she needs to explain her concepts more simply and make sure that the person listening to you understands what she is talking about. Adjusting the ways of communication according to different age groups can make the talking more effective.

Jeanine was prepared in terms of having the itinerary set for the meeting; however, her approach was a bit unsettling for someone like Kyle. Kyle seems to be unfamiliar with the social media side of business, due to his age, because of this, I believe she can approach the subject with a more detailed explanation. This could include further reasoning for the use of contractions and abbreviations. This is also a good lesson for Jeanine to learn that in further instances she should not storm off in frustration and instead act more professionally. From this, I have learned that when approaching someone without an idea about what you are trying to market or share, you must first understand the person's opinion/understanding of what you are trying to convey. For instance, if I were in her position, I would first ask Kyle about his overall experience with social media. Thus, I would proceed with the following steps of explaining the media side of business. But if questions arose, I would answer professionally with politeness and understanding.

To have been better prepared for this meeting, Jeanine could have shown examples of Twitter culture and other professional companies posting more casual messages to promote their brands. She could also show how these casual Tweets have improved relations with the public and boost their reputation with the growing generation online. When communicating with an older age group that does not understand concepts that seem easy to you, you should treat them with respect and have empathy for them, understanding they do not grasp the idea easily. It is imperitive you do not rush into the concept and do not establish a superior tone that invalidates others' perception of the concept right away. It is better if you show the culture of Twitter first and then how the company could utilize it to their advantage. If I was in her place, I would have shown many examples of people and companies using casual language to get their language across and promote brands.

She also should've had more positive points to point out however she should've had a little bit more of a professional approach. To help older colleagues understand your methods you could do a slow walk through and use comparisons to something they are similar with. You could also mentions to your colleagues that times are changing and younger generations are really tech invested and you could show some statistics to prove you point. If I was Jeanine I would have started off with a brief introduction to the idea by showing my boss other company’s social medias and how they work. She should be more aware that she works for a formal company that expects polite and clear tweets. It is a wise idea to ask about the demographics that the company is targeted to. To speak clearly with the older age group she should have given clear concepts of social media and how it works.

Jeanine could have done better to prepare for the meeting by understanding the use of formal communication in a formal setting. That despite her outside knowledge of slang, she should be able to know when is the appropriate time to use slang and when to use formal language. To explain to different age or demographic groups of easy concepts to you, is by slowly explaining step by step through comparisons of things they are familiar with. If I was in Jeanine's situation, I would explain to my supervisor that those also using the app, would most likely be my age groups. Which makes it better to speak in the slang language my age groups use as it relates to them more, such as the target audience.

I think Jeanine could have thought about who she was presenting to and how people don't understand everything the same. I feel like for communicating with older people, I would try to explain more clearly and frequently ask questions. If I was Jeanine, I would have had more examples to show. I feel like Jeanine didn't take into consideration that her boss was older.

Jeanine coukd have given insight on how to operate the app better. She knows the age of her boss, from this she could assume that her boss is not right or serious. She should have explained it better in a more serious way. She should have stayed calm as well. She also should have been way more polite.

Jeanine could've prepared herself more before this meeting, and could have thought of how to support her reasons. She also could have explained her reasons slower so that the elders could understand more things, since they don't understand social media well. She should have explained what people do with the app and it's purpose.

Jeanine could prepare better by thinking of the type of people she is talking to. The older generation doesn’t understand technology as much so it would have been better to explain with clarity. When communicating with an older age group you should go slow and take your time. Also make sure you are as clear as possible so they understand. If i were in jeanine’s place i would easily walk them through the steps and double check that my boss understood everything.

Jeanine could've better prepared for this meeting by including elaborations on what the contractions and abbreviations mean, and how they fit into the context. When professionally communicating with an older age group, it's necessary to ensure they understand concepts that they might not be familiar with surrounding social media by providing reasoning. If I were in Jeanine's place, I would've explained how contractions and abbreviations are typically used on Twitter in professional tweets. I would include comparisons to concepts that Jeanine's supervisor would understand

In order to better prepare for this meeting, Jeanine could have prepared more examples companies using social media. Since her boss is from an older age group, providing examples could help him understand the common use of language within companies on social media. If I was in Jeanine's position I would have began my explanation with a warning that it will be something new and for them to hear me out. Then, I will make sure to go into depth with all of my information and provide examples aswell.
