In this usrah session, Brother Fakhri explained to us in detail about the Pillars of Islam and their importance in a Muslim’s life. We reflected on how each pillar forms the foundation of our faith and practice, and why it is crucial for every Muslim to uphold them consistently. Furthermore, we learned about the proper etiquette (adab) of seeking knowledge, which reminded us that learning is not merely about collecting information, but also about purifying our intentions, showing respect to our teachers, and applying the knowledge in daily life.

In addition, our naqib, Brother Fakhri, provided valuable insights that are highly relevant to our life as students. He emphasized that being a student is not just about academic excellence, but also about building good character, strengthening our iman, and managing our time wisely. These lessons encouraged us to balance between worldly responsibilities and our religious obligations.

We also explored several Hadith Jibril, which are rich with meaningful lessons and timeless guidance for life. From these hadith, we learned about the essence of iman, Islam, ihsan, and the importance of being mindful of the Day of Judgment. These teachings remind us that Islam is not only about rituals, but also about sincerity, excellence in worship, and awareness of accountability before Allah.

Overall, the usrah session was a fruitful experience, helping us to strengthen our understanding of Islam, develop a deeper appreciation for knowledge, and inspire us to practice what we have learned in our daily lives as students and as servants of Allah.

For this week’s usrah, I managed to know my fellow members better, including their names, backgrounds, and courses, which helped to strengthen our sense of ukhuwah and created a more comfortable environment for learning together. I also learned about the pillars of halaqah (3Ts: Takaful, Ta’aruf, Tafahum), which reminded me that usrah is not just about gaining knowledge, but also about caring for one another, building meaningful connections, and fostering mutual understanding. In addition, we were reminded of the Adab of seeking knowledge and the Adab towards the Qur’an, such as sincerity, respect for teachers, humility, and approaching knowledge with the right intention.

Our naqib, Brother Fakhri, also shared many valuable insights that gave me a new perspective as a student. For example, he explained that a bad person cannot truly befriend a good person unless the good one is influenced by the bad traits, but if the bad person sincerely wants to improve himself, then that friendship will be blessed by Allah. This really emphasized the importance of surrounding ourselves with good companions and being mindful of the influences in our lives.

Overall, this usrah session gave me meaningful lessons not only about knowledge and adab, but also about building strong bonds with others and striving to become a better Muslim in daily life.

PILLARS OF IMAN !

In this usrah, I learned about the Pillars of Iman and how to apply each of them in our daily lives. As Muslims, there are six pillars of faith that we must believe in wholeheartedly and without any doubt, for they form the very foundation of our iman and guide us in every aspect of our existence. These pillars remind us that our life is not only about what is visible in this world, but also about the unseen realities that Allah has informed us of. In addition, we were reminded that we must take the Qur’an and Hadith as our ultimate sources of guidance, because only by following them can we remain on the straight path and avoid going astray. Both the Qur’an and Hadith serve as a compass that directs us towards righteousness and provides clarity in facing the challenges of life.

From this session, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the first three pillars of faith, namely belief in Allah, belief in the malaikah , and belief in the kutub . Belief in Allah strengthens my awareness that He is the Creator, the Sustainer, and the One who controls everything in my life. Belief in the Malaikah reminds me that I am never alone, for Allah has created angels who record my deeds, protect me, and carry out His commands. This makes me more conscious of my actions, even when no one is watching. Belief in the kutub teaches me that Allah has sent guidance to humankind through His messengers, and that the Qur’an is the final and most complete book, preserved for all time. This realization encourages me to read the Qur’an more frequently and to apply its teachings in my life as a student and as a Muslim.

Overall, this usrah session was very meaningful as it deepened my understanding of the foundations of faith while also reminding me of the responsibility to live according to these beliefs. It motivated me to strengthen my connection with Allah, to strive for sincerity in all that I do, and to hold firmly to the Qur’an and Sunnah as my guide.

This week, under the same topic, we continued with the remaining articles of faith, namely belief in the messengers and prophets, belief in the Day of Judgment, and belief in divine decree (qada’ and qadar). Each of these pillars of faith was explained in detail by Brother Fakhri, together with the supporting evidences from the Qur’an and Hadith, which helped me to understand their significance more clearly.

I learned that belief in the messengers and prophets reminds us that Allah sent guidance through chosen individuals who conveyed His message with honesty and sincerity. This strengthens our appreciation of the struggles they endured and motivates us to follow the final messenger, Prophet Muhammad , as the best role model in every aspect of life. Belief in the Day of Judgment makes us conscious that our actions in this world will be held accountable in the Hereafter, encouraging us to live with integrity, sincerity, and awareness of Allah at all times. Meanwhile, belief in qada’ and qadar teaches us to trust in Allah’s divine plan, accepting both ease and hardship with patience, while still striving to do our best in every situation.

In conclusion, this usrah session reminded me that we must hold firmly to all six articles of faith without any doubt or hesitation, for they form the essence of our iman and serve as the foundation of a Muslim’s worldview. By internalizing these beliefs, I feel more motivated to live with purpose, strengthen my relationship with Allah, and face the challenges of life with trust in His wisdom.

IHSAN AND ESCHATOLOGY !

In the previous usrah, which was in the fifth week, I learned about the concept and meaning of ihsan and came to understand its connection with Islamic eschatology. Ihsan, which is often defined as worshipping Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, know that He surely sees you, carries a profound message about sincerity, mindfulness, and excellence in all aspects of life. This concept helped me realize that faith is not only about external actions, but also about cultivating inner awareness of Allah in every situation.

In addition, Brother Fakhri explained the concept of ihsan in the Qur’an and Hadith, giving us a clearer picture of how it is deeply rooted in our tradition. He shared several examples of Qur’anic verses related to ihsan in different aspects of life, such as showing kindness to parents, being just in dealing with others, and maintaining sincerity in acts of worship. He also reminded us of the Hadith of Jibril, where the Prophet ﷺ described ihsan as the highest level of faith, building upon the foundations of Islam and iman.

Finally, we discussed the connection between ihsan and Islamic eschatology. Ihsan is not only about living with excellence in this world, but it also prepares us for the Hereafter, where every deed will be judged. By practicing ihsan, a believer strengthens his relationship with Allah and gains readiness to face the Day of Judgment with sincerity and hope for His mercy.

Overall, this usrah session deepened my appreciation of ihsan as a guiding principle that shapes not only our worship, but also our daily conduct, and reminded me that our awareness of Allah should always extend to how we live, act, and prepare for the life to come.

Reflection :

Throughout this usrah, I have gained many valuable lessons not only related to Islamic knowledge but also in terms of personal growth and daily life. Usrah has provided me with a platform to strengthen my understanding of the Qur’an, hadith, and contemporary issues in the light of Islam. It also trained me to express my opinions, listen to others, and develop communication skills. By engaging in discussions, I realized that every member has unique perspectives and experiences, which enriched our sessions and strengthened our bond as a group. More importantly, I learned that usrah is not just about acquiring knowledge. It is also about building character, reminding one another of good, and nurturing true brotherhood and sisterhood for the sake of Allah.

Wish :

My wish is for this usrah to continue consistently and become even more engaging in the future. I hope every member remains motivated and committed to participate actively. I also wish for usrah to be a platform that does not only nurture spiritual growth but also enhances self-confidence, leadership, and motivation to become better Muslims. May this usrah bring us closer to Allah SWT, increase our love for knowledge, and help us practice what we have learned in our daily lives.

Suggestion :

As for suggestions, I think the usrah could be made more interactive by including activities such as quizzes, case discussions, or personal sharing sessions among members. This would make the learning environment more dynamic and enjoyable. Additionally, organizing activities outside the usual sessions such as community service, visits, or bonding programs that would strengthen our ties and allow us to apply Islamic values in real-life contexts. This way, usrah becomes not just a circle of knowledge but also a practical space for living Islam together.

ADAB WITH PARENTS !

In this usrah, I learned that adab refers to good manners, noble character, and all righteous actions taught in Islam. I was also able to distinguish between adab and akhlaq, where akhlaq is more about inner character, while adab is the outward expression of those values. This shows that adab is very important as it influences how we interact with others and live our daily lives.

The session mainly focused on adab towards parents, which Islam places in a very high position. Among the important aspects of this adab are to speak politely and gently, to obey their instructions as long as they do not go against Islamic principles, and to pray for their well-being. Children should also serve and help their parents, especially when they are old, and always respect their dignity and feelings by avoiding actions or words that could hurt them.

In conclusion, showing good adab towards parents is not only a sign of gratitude but also a way to attain Allah’s pleasure, as His pleasure is tied to the pleasure of our parents. This usrah reminded me that by practicing adab sincerely, especially towards our parents, we gain both their blessings and the mercy of Allah.

During the final week, we conducted a presentation based on the roleplay topic we had chosen earlier and also created a poster related to it. Besides that, we were given a conclusion or summary of all the topics that we had learned and discussed throughout our usrah sessions, starting from week 1 until the last week.

From my observation, usrah brings many benefits to the participants. It helps to strengthen the bond of brotherhood and unity among group members, allowing us to understand and support one another better. It also increases our knowledge and awareness about various Islamic values and moral lessons that can be applied in daily life. Moreover, usrah improves our communication and teamwork skills, as we often work together in discussions, presentations, and group activities. Most importantly, it encourages self-reflection and spiritual growth, helping us to become better individuals both in our relationship with Allah and with others. Overall, usrah is a meaningful and beneficial program that shapes us into more knowledgeable, responsible, and spiritually grounded individuals.

In the second week, the usrah session began with an introduction session among the usrah members, as all members were different from those of the previous semester.Next, our usrah assistant gave a brief explanation about usrah and explained the usrah topic to us, which was “Reasons & Sources of Hikmah from Ibadah.”

Ibadah in Islam is not merely a ritual practice, but a profound source of wisdom that shapes human beings holistically. Prayer instills discipline and prevents immorality and wrongdoing, fasting trains the soul towards taqwa (God-consciousness), zakat purifies wealth and cleanses the heart from greed, while hajj represents total submission to Allah and preparation for the Hereafter.

All these acts of ibadah function to develop human beings from the level of the individual, family, society, nation, and ultimately the Muslim world as a whole. Through ibadah, humans are prepared to become khalifah on earth, governing according to Allah’s will, and to become servants worthy of success in the Hereafter.

In conclusion, the hikmah (wisdom) of ibadah lies in its ability to purify the soul, strengthen moral character, and build an Islamic civilization that is balanced between worldly life and the Hereafter.

In Islam, niyyah (intention) is the foundation of every action. It determines the value and acceptance of an act of worship in the sight of Allah. A sincere intention transforms ordinary actions into acts of ibadah, as long as they are performed solely for the pleasure of Allah. Without correct niyyah, actions may lose their spiritual worth even if they appear good outwardly.

Meanwhile, amal (practices) refers to the actual implementation of one’s intention through righteous deeds. True faith is reflected not only through intention, but also through consistent and correct actions that follow the teachings of Islam. Amal completes niyyah by translating inner sincerity into real behavior and discipline.

In conclusion, niyyah and amal are inseparable in Islam. A pure intention must be accompanied by righteous actions, while good deeds must be rooted in sincere intention. Together, they shape a Muslim who is sincere in the heart and upright in actions, leading to success in both this world and the Hereafter.

LAZINESS IN PERFOMING PRAYER !

Laziness in performing prayer (salah) is a common challenge faced by many Muslims, especially due to busy schedules, distractions, and weak self-discipline. When prayer is delayed or neglected, it can weaken a person’s connection with Allah and affect spiritual growth. This laziness often stems from a lack of awareness of the importance and value of prayer in daily life.

To overcome this problem, Muslims must first strengthen their intention (niyyah) and remind themselves that prayer is an obligation and a source of spiritual strength. Establishing a consistent prayer routine, managing time wisely, and avoiding unnecessary distractions can help improve commitment to prayer. In addition, seeking Allah’s help through du‘a, maintaining good company, and increasing Islamic knowledge about the rewards of prayer can motivate a person to remain steadfast.

In conclusion, overcoming laziness in prayer requires self-discipline, sincere intention, and continuous effort. With perseverance and reliance on Allah, prayer can become a source of peace, guidance, and success in both this world and the Hereafter.

Preparation before performing prayer (salah) is an important aspect of ensuring that worship is carried out properly and with sincerity. It begins with purifying oneself, such as performing wudu’, wearing clean and appropriate clothing, and ensuring the place of prayer is clean. These physical preparations help a Muslim approach prayer with discipline and respect.

Beyond physical readiness, mental and spiritual preparation is equally important. This includes having a clear intention (niyyah), being mindful of the time of prayer, and focusing the heart on standing before Allah. Avoiding distractions and calming the mind help to increase khushu‘ (concentration and humility) during prayer.

In conclusion, proper preparation before prayer enhances the quality and acceptance of salah. By preparing both physically and spiritually, a Muslim can perform prayer with greater focus, sincerity, and awareness, strengthening the connection with Allah and gaining inner peace.

Fasting is a significant act of worship in Islam that goes beyond abstaining from food and drink. It serves as a spiritual training that develops patience, self-discipline, and self-control. By restraining physical desires, a fasting person learns to purify the heart and strengthen moral character.

One of the main virtues of fasting is the cultivation of taqwa, or consciousness of Allah. Fasting encourages believers to be more mindful of their actions, words, and intentions, knowing that Allah is always aware of them. This awareness increases sincerity and strengthens the bond between a servant and the Creator.

Fasting also nurtures empathy and compassion. Feeling hunger and thirst helps individuals understand the hardships of the less fortunate, inspiring generosity and gratitude. In addition, fasting purifies the soul by reducing negative traits and encouraging patience and humility.

In conclusion, fasting is not merely a ritual but a meaningful practice that shapes faith, character, and social responsibility, leaving a positive impact beyond the fasting period.

ZAKAH AND SADAQAH !

Zakah is one of the pillars of Islam and is an obligatory act of worship for Muslims who meet certain conditions. It involves giving a specific portion of one’s wealth to eligible recipients as determined in Islam. Through zakah, wealth is purified, greed is reduced, and social justice is promoted within the community.

Sadaqah, on the other hand, is a voluntary act of charity that reflects sincerity and compassion. It can be given at any time, in any form, and in any amount. Sadaqah is not limited to financial contributions; helping others, sharing knowledge, offering kind words, and even smiling are considered acts of sadaqah in Islam.

Both zakah and sadaqah play a significant role in strengthening unity and brotherhood among Muslims. They encourage empathy towards the less fortunate and remind believers that wealth is a trust from Allah. By practicing zakah and sadaqah consistently, Muslims can contribute to a more caring, balanced, and harmonious society while gaining spiritual rewards in the hereafter.

THE VIRTUES FOUND IN HAJJ AND UMRAH !

Hajj and Umrah are acts of worship that carry deep spiritual meanings and valuable virtues for Muslims. Among the key virtues found in both Hajj and Umrah are sacrifice (al-tadhiyyah) and taqwa, or God-consciousness.

Sacrifice (al-tadhiyyah) is clearly reflected in the willingness of pilgrims to leave behind their comfort, wealth, time, and daily routines in order to answer the call of Allah. Pilgrims endure physical challenges, long journeys, and crowded conditions as a form of devotion and submission. This spirit of sacrifice teaches Muslims the importance of patience, sincerity, and putting obedience to Allah above personal desires.

Taqwa, or God-consciousness, is another essential virtue cultivated through Hajj and Umrah. Throughout these acts of worship, pilgrims are constantly reminded to be mindful of their intentions, actions, and words. By following specific rules and rituals, avoiding prohibited acts, and maintaining good character, pilgrims learn to strengthen their relationship with Allah and increase their awareness of His presence in every aspect of life.

In conclusion, Hajj and Umrah are not merely physical journeys, but spiritual journeys that shape a Muslim’s character. The virtues of sacrifice and taqwa gained from these experiences serve as lifelong lessons, encouraging Muslims to live with greater obedience, humility, and consciousness of Allah even after returning home.

Reflection :

Through this usrah session, I have come to realize that Islamic acts of worship such as Hajj, Umrah, zakah, and sadaqah carry deeper meanings beyond their physical practices. The virtues of sacrifice and taqwa remind me that true worship requires sincerity, patience, and self-discipline. These discussions encourage me to reflect on my daily actions, intentions, and responsibilities, and how I can apply these values consistently in my life as a student and as a Muslim. It also reminds me that every act, no matter how small, can become a form of worship when done with the right intention.

Wish :

I sincerely hope that Allah grants us steadfastness in faith and allows us to continuously improve ourselves spiritually. May Allah give us the strength to practice the values we have learned, such as sacrifice, generosity, and God-consciousness, in our daily lives. I also hope that one day we will be given the opportunity to perform Hajj and Umrah, and that the lessons gained from these sacred journeys will shape our character and bring us closer to Allah.

Suggestion :

For future usrah sessions, it would be beneficial to have more in-depth discussions and reflections that connect these topics to real-life situations. Interactive activities, sharing personal experiences, or short reflections from each member could help make the sessions more engaging and meaningful. This would allow us to better understand the relevance of these teachings and encourage us to apply them more consistently in our everyday lives.
