Tammy Tocheniuk-As a professional IIC, I have assisted guardians with their newly adopted or fostered animals, some who had issues from their stay at the shelter, or some who were confused as to why they were there. I have found that the communication extending in both directions-to the human from the animal for clarity and from me to the animal to explain the situation and expectations of the human for the animal, benefit all involved. It is a type of mediation in a sense, as both human and animal are given the opportunity to speak and to listen.

Communicating with animals who are deceased adds an additional nuance to the IIC exploration at this conference because it also raises the question as to whether consciousness survives death. Potential discussion topics:  a) What prompted your interest in this breakout session? Do you have any personal experience with this topic?
