Put yourself in a teaching role and think of way you could change your lesson or make it where homework wasn't stressful. What would you do? Respond to a partner stating one way why you think their idea would help.

As a teacher I would add time in at the end of all my lessons for students to do homework. I understand that with this some students would not take the time seriously but at some point its on them. If I am giving them time in class where they can ask me questions if they are confused they can be responsible and use their time wisely. I thin it would really help and benefit the students they are focused or have activities after school this could help reduce stress.

If I were a teacher, one way that I could alter my lesson to make homework less stressful is to not require it at all. I feel like, especially at the high school level where I'm interested in teaching, math homework checked for completion does nothing to further the student's understanding of the content. I think giving resources for students who need extra help, and resources that are manageable at that, is a better way in establishing skills students need such as responsibility and maturity in their own learning. It's experiences outside of the classroom that give students the growth they need to succeed in life, and its skills rather than simply learning specific math strategies. Making homework optional is a way to improve these skills in students.

Personally, I would build in time for the students to do their homework. I think this is important because many students have activities or clubs after school that they also need to be at. Their entire life isn't just based around school. On top of that, I wouldn't give any busy work just because I felt like the students needed homework. Another idea is to keep homework as optional. This then helps struggling students to have a resource to practice the material, but the students that are doing okay, don't have the busy work.

If I were a teacher, I would definitely focus less on just getting through the lesson and more on allowing the kids time to understand the material. Sometimes, there will be things that they will need to do because it prepares them for the class ahead, but I definitely wouldn't give it every day. Instead of giving homework for completion, I would give a few problems or questions as an option for them if they need more work or practice.

I would minimize the busy work for the homework I give. I have a teacher that also has no due date policy and it works for the course he teaches. I think in a math setting practice is necessary but I think a one page worksheet would be sufficient!

In order to make homework less stressful I would try to give longer due dates that way students can have more time to come see me outside of class or to let the information sink in before they try the assignment. By doing this students have less pressure on them and can understand the information on their own time or even as review the night before the test.

I think that there are SO many instances in which homework is not achieving its intended goal. Essentially, "busy work" worksheets and less important subjects become less of a priority, and students simply cheat online or copy the answers. I think that having a homework block schedule, even if you are not following a block schedule during the day, you should only have to do homework in max 4 classes per night. Any more it becomes the ones with priority get done and the others don't, which just adds unnecessary stress to the lives of students.

As a teacher, I wouldn't necessarily get rid of all homework as a whole, as I do believe some of it can be very helpful and engaging to the students, but, I would definitely cut down on a lot of the assignemnts. For example, instead of 30 questions, which can be seen as useless and a waste of time, I would shorten it down to 5 questions that are reasonable, super important, and straight forward. One easy, two or three medium level, and one hard. To me, I think that is much more effective.

If I were a teacher, I think that I would allow homework to be an optional assignment. If you understand the material, there is no reason for you to be putting in the extra effort, when you might need to spend that time on a subject your struggling in. If you don´t understand the material, getting the homework done just isn't likely because you don´t know how to complete the homework. I would implement time in class to ask question and do practice problems, whether then sending it home.

I would only give homework when the students show that they do not understand the content. If students don't understand the material then they need extra help and extra work to review. This might actually lower stress knowing they have extra review to help them and that the teacher identifies they need extra help. I also think it will reduce stress if homework is only given when the students run out of time in class. Usually if they don't finish in class it is because behavior slowed down the lesson or the student is working slower because they don't understand.

As a teacher, I would still assign homework, but lighten the load. And give students days to catch up and review at home. Also what I would do for the younger grades especially, is maybe not give homework over the weekend, so that kids can be kids, and play and relax over the weekend.
