Once a thoughtful vegetarian, Pi has transformed into an impulsive creature acting on whatever means survival. He realizes "how low I (Pi) had sunk" in response to the situation, eating ravenously "like an animal... (Pi's) noisy, frantic, unchewing wolfing-down of mine was exactly the way Richard Parker ate" (225). Pi is a changed character and the shrunken Superego dwindling inside his brain uses the last of its strength to remind him so.
