         <description><![CDATA[<div>Observation: If an ELL does not feel like they are legitimized as an English speaker, they could be disadvantaged in terms of their language development.<br>Connection: In placement, the students that were ELL learners definitely do have a lot of knowledge and might just need the extra help articulating their point.&nbsp;<br>Surprise: The use of SNS at home positively influences the development of the english language and literacy skills.&nbsp;<br>Question: How can you help students that are ELL develop their own writing identity in primary grades, without access to SNS or other technologies?<br><br>Jessica Siewdass<br>100486526</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Observation: I liked the idea of the tech helping ELL students not only develop a sense of "ownership of English" but also finding their "individual voices".<br>Connection: I had a ELL student and we were trying to find ways and spaces where he could participate.&nbsp; I used simple apps like Kahoot &amp; polleverywhere to help.&nbsp; However, he had to write an essay and Ning would have been helpful.<br>Surprise: &nbsp;How well the students were able to build their social presence with using an tech tool.<br>Question: One of the struggles I had in the classroom (a both of my placements) was connectivity to various apps and using some platforms. What are some other challenging in relying on these apps?&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Observation: How important multiliteracies can be in the classroom especially for ELL learners.&nbsp;<br>Connection: I found I had a similar experience whereby whenever students had the opportunity to share their learning or express themselves through an online outlet their responses seemed to be a lot more meaningful.&nbsp;<br>Surprise: I am both surprised and impressed at how much of a positive impact SNS was able to have on ELL learners and really help to develop a strong online identity.&nbsp;<br>Question: If you have limited access to technology, how would you go about setting up a SNS to benefit students?<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

You cannot place limits on students based on preconceptions.  <br>Connection: I had an ESL boy in my placement and I could defiantly see how he could have been considered an 'outsider' in the classroom from the students to sometimes the teacher not fully believing he can achieve the work.   <br>Surprise: How well SNS assisted ESL students. It helps students construct their thinking in their own ways.  <br>Question: What if you have limited access to technology?          <description><![CDATA[<div>Observation:Whenever i think of SNS i usually think of it as something to generally avoid in classrooms because of the negative impacts it can have with regards to bullying and such. I was interested in how this article suggested SNS being a good place for ELL’s as it provides a place to communicate with less formality that a classroom environment would have and be a good tool for practice.<br>Connection:In my own placement, we used class dojo which isn’t necessarily a class SNS, but it provided the students with a space to communicate in a more informal manner. Students could use pictures, emojis and short words to describe things they wanted to share in our storyboard. I found even the students who did not necessarily talk much in class were eager to participate on our storyboard.&nbsp;<br>Suprise:&nbsp;</div><div>I was surprised how much the students benefited in the study.&nbsp;<br>Question:Many sites are blocked in schools. For example, in the YRDSB have many useful website that the kids could use blocked on their devices. How do about encouraging the kids when we don’t have access.&nbsp;<br><br>Ayan.
