I also noticed the American colors and themes used in his outfit, including the eagle head on his stick. This is different compared other traditional native garb I've seem. I haven't seen indian dancers include the stars and stripes in their outfits before. I wonder how many innocent animals were killed in the making of these costumes.

It marks the cultural and symbolic influence that the Native Americans had on American Settlers. It shows as well that Native American culture is still being shown today in many ways, but in this scenario through the United States of America's national animal, the Bald Eagle.

I have never seen what a dismembered Bald Eagle looks like, so it is a new sight to me. I also have never really been exposed to true Native American culture like this, where the man is performing a cultural ceremony, with other people spectating him. His whole outfit displays the significance of his tribe and culture, and it is very unique and cool to see.

There are people spectating in the background, which makes me think that this event is important. The clothing that this man is wearing is like the outfits I have seen shown in photos of traditional Native American rituals and celebrations. The feathers and bright colors make me think that each part of this outfit could have symbolic meanings. The staff with the bald eagle head makes me think that the staff could be in support of the symbol of America, but maybe it has another purpose/meaning.

Looking at this image, I see a Native American expressing his culture at some form of celebration or even a 4th of July festival. I see an excessive amount of feathers and a bald eagle that could represent some form of Patriotism. Prior to viewing this image, I knew of Native Americans deep love for their traditions. He may be performing some kind of dance or ritual that he had learned from his tribe or homeland.

Then I noticed all the people surrounding them in street clothes are very clearly not Native American. This reminds me of when we first came to America and whether we had the right to do this. Maybe this Native American is fighting for the right for his people to stay where they are by demonstrating his culture in different ways. Maybe it's a festival celebrating his culture where people are supporting and wanting to learn more about them. It makes me wonder whether I would be celebrating them or opposing them by forcing them to fight for their right to have their own land.

The feathers show a sense of providing. People tend to not care about the history of our nation and the people who came before us. Every part of their daily life is demonstrated in the clothes worn by this individual. The event looks like it is in place to demonstrate and show the history and appreciation for our country. Shown in the display of the Native American and American flag.

I also saw the bald eagle staff right away and when I saw it I thought that it shows how some Native Americans are actually really accepting of what America has become instead of being angry like others say. Part of me feels that maybe its weird for people to just be watching this individual, who I assume is doing some kind of ritual dance, but the other part of me thinks that it's really important for everyone to be exposed to different cultures and ideas.

He is possibly portraying a hunter who was proud of killing an eagle and was creative enough to use the parts of the eagle to make the different parts of the outfit. He seems to be performing a cultural dance at some sort of event possibly honoring the culture of the Native Americans, which could explain why there are people watching and taking photos. I wondered why not all the spectators are watching the man, if he was a small part of a greater performance.

Nevaeh Ringen

When I look at this image, I assume this is some sort of festival or celebration of Native American heritage. I appreciate the culture that is embedded into this man's outfit. I know that Native American were polytheistic and they really respected nature because they believed that if they would please their gods then they would be blessed with a good harvest or hunt. I wonder if there are parts of this outfit are symbols that are used to honor their gods? I also know that when they hunt for food they use every part of that animal so nothing goes to waste; I think it is extraordinary that even the feathers didn't go to waste because they were used for ceremonial clothing. I think both the color red and the eagle could be signs of victory and strength. I wonder if the color red was used because it was a reminder of the blood that was spilt in past battles and demonstrated the Native American's resilience. Finally, I think that the eagle is seen as the king of the sky and it exhibits strength and fierceness.

I found this interesting because I've always heard controversy upon the topic of the early interaction between Native Americans and American settlers; assuming there was still resentment between the two groups, I never realized that many Native Americans are now actually proud to be apart of the USA. I suppose they conceded and chose to honor America alongside their tradition because of the privilege to be a part of an unique country which ultimately cares for their rights and cultures, allowing them to continue practicing their ceremonies and traditions.

I wonder if the Native American is a family member trying to keep his ancestors legacy alive. I notice some people are attentive and some are not paying attention and wonder if they might have different views on what looks like a festival and different opinions on the culture. When studying the native American in school this outfit was common among many of the photos and I wonder if the eagle is for American patriotism or if it was an important symbol to the Native Americans before it was to us.

The flags in the background remind me of our country. It brings forth the experience at public events where we remember to honor our country with flags and the national anthem. This event reminds us of the culture of those who were here before us and laid the foundation of our country. I see this event as a preservation of the ceremonial culture of the Native Americans through their descendants. I would venture to say that these ceremonies assist in teaching the culture to future generations how to maintain the ties they have with their ancestors and origins. Seeing the harmony of Native American culture and the US, I am reminded of the fact that the natives helped the first immigrants from the Mayflower to survive as they started this country. This event helps to continue the tie of native culture to America.

Some parts of the outfit look like protection for hunting or battle. This helped me recall when we did Indian Village in 4th grade; I remember the different types of hunting and cooking they did for themselves. I notice the eagle head on a staff, the feet on his back, and a flag badge on his shoulder. I took this as either respect for the country or disrespect, since it is illegal to kill an eagle in America. I realize he is in front of a crowd, maybe dancing and showing how unique his culture is.There are so many different details to this costume, including the chest plate, the coat, and feathers covering his body. His whole outfit like something I've never seen before so it was interesting to identify the many parts to it.
