The ancient Chinese people irrigated the land to help their crops, and they fished for food. They also modified their environment by building the Great Wall. Now, in modern China, China is basically abusing it's environment. It is releasing over 30% of the world's emissions. Also, if local officials don't like a new law, it can ignore it, which doesn't help the climate. I believe that if China doesn't respect it's environment, the whole environment would collapse, and millions of species will go extinct.

This is from The Economist China and the environment

They built houses that could withstand earthquakes and other natural disasters. The ancient Japanese built weak houses that could be destroyed by any natural disasters, but the people were always ready to rebuild the houses. They also fished a lot because of their surroundings. They were surrounded with water, and they made good use of it. This is also because that livestock wasn't introduced until recently to Japan. Still, fish is one of their main exports. I think that because of their olden ways of living, they now are updated with the world, and in fact they are one of the world's leading tech

experts.
