This book would be working toward interest and motivation of a 6 year old girl who loves pink and sparkles. The book includes dialogue and problem solving. There are also some vocabulary words that we could work on and go over, as building vocabulary going into first grade is important.

Dr. Suess are classics and wonderful for students in this age range. Green Eggs and Ham is a great book where we can explore rhyming and different word families. Words families are important for late kindergarten and early first grade. They are a great foundation for other words.

Pete The Cat books are great to reinforce sight words and simple concepts. I would never use this as an assessment, but comprehension. These books also allow us to look at advanced vocabulary and work toward understanding tier 2 words.

This is a book that I would use at any level from preschool through first grade. It works on letters, sounds, and rhyming. I would do a writing activity along with this book and use an alphabet book and have my focus learner create her own ABC book. This can also be a very interactive book.
