The lachlan river is located in the great dividing ranges in NSW. The main stream runs for 1,500 km and the water is pretty murky. The Wiradjuri tribe used to live along the lachlan river and take its water for survival. In 1870 there was a flood and the river peaked at 15.9 metres. The river was named after Lachlan Macquarie the governor of New South Wales from 1810 to 1821.

My alarm went off at 6:00am on the dot, and I started packing for a big journey ahead of me. I pack all of my things into a big bag that I will put on my back the whole trip. I shut off the light of my cabin, went over to my friends house with my dog and handed it to him. "Well I'm off" I said to him and set out for the journey of a life time.

Its lunch time and I've got my lunch cooking on a fire as I explore the surroundings of my location. It has a lot of gum trees, dead trees and grassy patches here and there. After lunch I set out for another 4 hours till I settled down to find camp for the night.

The rest of the day was tough as I cross a lot of forest and rivers heading up to yea and Mansfield. I set up camp in a paddock and ate the rest of my baked beans that I brought from breakfast. I went to bed at around 9:30 that night.

Right now in in the middle of NSW and had a big day of walking. I crossed the Lachlan river and it was a struggle. The currant was really strong and there was a lot of sticks and logs in the river. I was getting nervous that there might be crocs but I realised while crossing that they don't have crocs in NSW. When I was in the middle of the stream when the current started to pick up and I was all of a sudden struggling to stay on course. I floated down stream and fianlly I could grab on a rock. I pulled my self up and jumps to one rock and then the next. when I finally got to the side I sighed a relief and then realised I had floated down stream a good 2 km. I walked back up the stream and started walking to the closest town in seek of food and a place to set camp.

I found both food and a nice grassy patch to set up camp and set my damp cloths to dry out.

I just passed a small town and asked how long till I get to Port Douglas. They said around 20 km out from here. I was getting excited and starting to run, even though I had a heavy bag and 20 km still to go. I was getting excited that after nearly 150 days of travel I was finally going to get there.

At around 6pm I started to see the sand dunes and mangroves that lay next to the sea. My heart skipped a beat and I started to run and run till I reached the sand by the beach. "YES!" I remembered screaming and jumped into the water and splashed about.

Later that night I went to the closest town (Port Douglas) and celebrated by going to the local pub and having the biggest meal I've ever had, it was a trip to remember.

While crossing the river I might come across bad currents which could cause me to either drown or get seriously off track. Sticks and logs could catch on my shirt and cause damage to my gear. Also, animals like the Red Bellied Black Snake or a Platypus that could bite or scratch me and cause me to go to hospital.
