         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp;<strong>Variation</strong> <em>(students understand that differences exist within a given language, and that speakers of a given language are generally able to understand each other)<br></em><br></div><div>Stimulus question: <strong>How does language change across geographical boundaries or from one sociocultural group to another?<br></strong><br></div><div>Strategy: Students listen to an excerpt of the song “Qué difícil es hablar el español” (“How difficult it is to speak Spanish” - song promoted on YouTube to highlight the different vocabulary used in different Spanish-speaking countries).<br><br></div><div>Assessment: Students analyze the lyrics of the song excerpt and identify the different terminology mentioned to refer to the same object. Students then research one additional vocabulary term in the target language and present its different regional translations to the class.<br><br></div>]]></description>
