Most clothing was made at home. Women wore a tunic called a peplos and  a garment called a chiton.  Men wore a chiton, but it was made from a light material. Men and women wore a garment called a himation. The himation was a cloak which was worn in colder weather. Greeks did not wear shoes. They wear slippers or other soft-soled shoes.

Hats, hoods, and other headdresses assumed increasing importance, and were swagged, draped, jewelled, and feathered.

A man's outfit started with a shirt, similar to today's dress shirt, but lacking the collar and cuffs. Instead of trousers men wore hose on their legs.
