Democracy means rule by the people. Everybody gets to say what they think should happen. Everyone gets to participate in the Government. If The Government is to protect the rights of the people, and the people choose how they are gonna protect them. America uses democracy too! The people elect leaders to represent us in congress,we do not vote for every issue,so the leaders do it for us! Any adult from the United States can vote for a leader! But sometimes you can not vote if you committed a very horrible crime,even if you are born in America! There are many kind of different kind of democracies. Direct Democracy is were anyone can vote, but they are pretty rare so don't be surprised if you're not apart of one. But there is also Indirect Democracy that's when people choose leaders to vote for them. But sometimes people don't like the decisions for what some people vote for, They may not get as much votes as the did last time. Democracy started in a city in Greece called Athens.Men would vote for leaders,laws would not be passed unless the Assembly approved them. There are branches
Legislative make the laws and pass them off. There is another branch that makes sure that you follow the laws that,legislative made.
