PCs - from this lesson on i am going try and use the PCs more as it is vital for the students to learn PC skills as well as utilise them as an effective tool in the classroom.

Real world context - after Kathy stated the real world context I was slightly disappointed as I have worked in industry for 11 years and i see it as one of my strong points being able to use this experience, but I will push to make this experience more prevalent in the classroom, particularly in the assessment methods.

Teacher talk - since starting teaching, I have always felt the need to be the one doing all of the talking and work. it is becoming apparent that this is not the case so i am going to work hard to try and reduce this. As my wife says - not a sage on the stage but a guide on the side....

Extension activity - extension activities are something I have missed out on in my lessons as quite often students are finished quickly and become disruptive and they really just waste the time.

Hopefully through focussing on these points in the coming months I will see the benefits in all of my classes and my final observation will give feedback if it has worked or not.

The lesson was to teach a class the importance of production planning. I done this through getting them to set up a pretend production line and using principle to create their own process plan.

The main areas of improvement I focussed on in this lesson were reducing teacher talk and real world context.

As i was getting them to do the activity in groups i done a little bit of talking at the beginning of the lesson and a bit between each ILO, I also believe I separated each ILO better in this lesson than before which was a point made by Kathy.

I also thought getting them to create a production line embedded real-world context as most of the students work in a production environment, but probably never see any of the planning stages.

The key takeaways from this lesson where how he presented his information so clearly and then was able to control the class all working separately. he admits himself that this only comes with time and experience. He also used and extension activity during the lesson to keep students busy and this was a great way of keeping the class under control.

Philip also done very little teaching from the front and spent lots of time moving around the class working with them 1 to 1.

Watching Philips manner in the classroom taught me a lot, as i could see his confidence and i believe this comes through hard work and experience over years of teaching.

His suggestions were to incorporate real life case-studies, maybe in video format, as well as just trying to relate everything back to either my own experiences or even the students experiences. He also said that through the use of the case-study it takes a bit of pressure off talking at the front and lets the students research, allowing me to assist them on more personal level.

But one of the most encouraging things to hear was that he too had these experiences and he said it took a long time before he really felt at ease with lecturing and had a full grasp of it.

Now moving onto my second assignment, I look forward to getting this submitted and rolling on to the summer to chill out!
