Louis Pasteur was born as the son of a tanner, who made hides and saddles. Since his father served in the Napoleonic Wars, Louis grew up listening to his fathers patriotic tales. This lead to him having a deep love for his country. As a young child, Louis loved to draw and paint, but his parents wanted him to focus on his studies. He was an average student, and he placed 14th on his first test to get into the prestigious college École Normale Supérieur of Paris. Louis did not accept his admittance and refused entrance. He took the test again and placed third. In his eyes, it was good enough to accept and he carried out until he acquired his doctorate. For his profession while obtaining his doctorate, he studied the obscure science of crystallography.

Louis Pasteur was one of the largest figures in the medical breakthrough of the germ theory of disease. He examined the fermentation process of alcohol and discovered that this sequence happens because of microscopic organisms. Louis coined the term bacteria for these organisms. The term bacteria is still used in a medical professionals in their every day life. He also discovered that heat killed bacteria. This finding led to the development of the process known as pasteurization. Pasteurization is used all over the world and it is used to kill germs in liquids such as milk. Soon after Louis came up with pasteurization and his findings with bacteria, it became clear to him as well as other scientists that bacteria caused diseases. Other than processes like pasteurization that he developed himself, he also received a considerable amount of fame for developing the first rabies vaccine.
