As an Episcopal priest, and as a school chaplain, I am deeply committed to the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as I believe it is all rooted in not only the imperative to love our neighbor as we love ourselves, but also the covenantal commitment to seek and serve Christ in all persons, striving for justice and peace, respecting the dignity of every human being.
Designing equitable assessments is a part of all of that bigger picture because it is at the core of the student experience of their school life. It is how, in many cases, teachers and learners communicate expectations for learning and markers of understanding.

I am interested in equity and assessment primarily in support of my learners for whom English is not their first language. I am increasingly aware that facility with command terms and being able to articulate ideas in English is rewarded with high grades. How might we ensure everyone has the opportunity to demonstrate or share understanding through assessments?

Hello! My name is Misha (she/her) and I am a secondary American History and US Government teacher. I predominately teach 11th graders but my age groups range from middle school through seniors in high school. I hope to gain insight and ideas to help diversify assessments and/or even find alternate solutions to not having to give assessments in every class.

Aloha, my name is Kaʻipolani Bailey-Walsh, Principal of the Lower Schools at St. Andrewʻs Schools. We are a private coordinate school located in downtown Honolulu. Our school was founded in 1867 by Queen Emma, who had the foresight and understanding that Hawaiian girls needed to have access to a high-quality education. Since the founding over 150 years ago, a boyʻs school, The Prep K-6 was add to the campus. Our school is a lasting testament to Queen Emmaʻs vision and efforts where our students can learn in a culture of love, care, and service. My goal for this course is to learn and to help support my team of educators, who are also taking this course. Mahalo!
