Firstly, from the language use in the story and judging from the grandmothers age, it is evident that females were deprived education in the past, a very few of the Chinese females were not fierce nor independent.</div>]]></description>

This language form emphasises the humour and the sensitivity of the grandmother. The grandmother speaks in short, simple sentences to emphasise the fact that she is always in a conflict internally, shows confusion.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>It is explored in the story that the Grandmother who is 68 years old Chinese woman who is an immigrant. The grandmother is finding it difficult and confusing to blend with other cultures apart from her own, she has so much critiques of other cultures and ethnic groups. The family in the story is a blend of ethnic groups, Chinese and American, her granddaughter is a mix of Irish and Chinese, making it difficult for the grandmother to discipline or raise the child since she has values of different cultures. The grandmother has a round and static identity, her opinions, behaviour and thoughts do not change in the story. </div>]]></description>
