He says he is not competitive. It shows the relationship between Brutus and Cassius, and the differences between Antony and Brutus.

This quote also foreshadows an upcoming event, it foreshadows Cassius' next move and his intentions towards Caesar

This shows that Brutus never wanted power in Rome, which means that him helping to murder Caesar was truly for the good of Rome, and not for his own good. He does fear that Caesar becoming king would be bad for Rome, as he says, "I do fear people Choose Caesar for their king" (1:2:85-86).
